Post by: damstarr on August 03, 2010, 10:26:51 PM
ok really guys how do u keep motivation? Some of you know my story, but i used to have jet sold it for more of a family boat.Got a 76 21ft waikiki daycruiser. Its an i/o,so im lost. But anyways ive finally got the engine and most of the parts.I still need a crankshaft pulley and a water pump pulley and an alternator mounting bracket,so if any one has one let me know, its a 1974 351w.But i think i have finally lost alllll motivavtion to finish it.The wife doesnt mind forkin out the money but i cant find a shop willing to touch it here and i dont know anyone that knows anything about boats here.so how do i get re motivated.......i guess this was just my way of venting for the night....thanks ,Daniel

hit up auto zone or ebay or  jet boat performance or jim brock. don't let a couple a pulleys keep you from hitting the water.. is it oem ford style pulleys your looking for? I have a bunch of 302 parts in the garage including a water pump and a harmonic balancer with the pulley on it from my old 73' bronco and im 99.99% sure they are the same for a 351. there yours if you want em' and if mine don't work we can figure out what you need to order..

Skip (Luckystiff) is right there, he prolly has what you need! If not try Bowrider (Gil) Hell you got a LOT of resources right under your nose!

Don't let a few little parts hold you up. My son Bebo and I are working on a very limited budget that we past long ago. The guys on this site have donated or sold us stuff at reasonable prices simply to help us out. There is no way that those parts should hold you up. As for knowing anything about boats... All the info you need is right here on this site.  Bebo and I have never built a motor or a boat and we have done everything but the machining ourselves.

Good Luck

HAHAHAHA not to fond of the midget idea....so i put the motor in last night, its just sittin in there.with it against the bellhousing the motor mounts are still about 4 inches above the stringers, not sure if i can just use some square stock to mount in the gap.But a local shop said they can install the engine but not sure how much they will charge.Kinda of tired of fighting the engine hoist on grass.lol

LMAO, Been there, done that on cars back east. Easier to move the boat around under it.  ;)  Changed an engine in a 5 ton dump truck of my Pops once with a chain fall hooked to an oak tree limb. Lotsa fun, lotsa beer, but it went in eventually!

Dude, if the wife gives the green light, that's half your battle right there.
Why do you think you lost motivation, tired of dealing with the boat or it's not the boat you want to deal with?
I'd say take Kenny up on his offer. Having some boating friends helping out might be the ticket.
Unless he comes over, drinks all your beer, and passes out in your front yard before he even turns a wrench  ;D.

As for the hoist on the grass, could you put a piece of 1" plywood down and roll the hoist on that?
I don't know how well the hoist will move, but I would think it would be easier than the grass.

Good luck.

That thing looks ready to float, I bet the Bakersfield crew could have that boat on the water in a day.  It will cost you lots of beer though, and some pics of your wifes hot friends would probably help get people at your door ready to help.

You Bakersfield slackers have one week to get it done before Mark calls the midget.  [attachimg=1]
