With a heavy heart, I would like to say I just got news that Mark Yunker was killed in the CompJet Class today in Parker at the SCSC Thanksgiving Regatta.
Mark drove hard. I always admired his driving. One of his accomplishments was being the high points champion and attaining US1 in CompJet for 2014 and #2 in points for 2015.
This is one of my best memories with Mark. It's from the Thanksgiving 2010 race in Parker. I seriously thought I had him. I dove into the corner on the inside and he out drove me from the outside.

I can't believe it.
My heart is hurting for the family. Not to mention the Comp Jet Family.
RIP buddy, you were fun to watch. Miss you already.

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to stop by and give a giant thank you on behalf of my family. I can tell you it's been a rough few days for my sisters and I because not only was Mark a great friend to some if not most of you he was a damn good father. He has touched so many people as I can also tell from reading these posts.
I also want to thank you for a lot of the pictures that you guys have posted and wanted to ask if I can use these images and stuff like that for a memorial site that I am building for him at markyunker.com (http://markyunker.com). It's current state is WIP so keep an eye out and I will be making a wall for people to post on

Mark was one of the nicest guys in the pit, always willing to help no matter what, he always took the time to stop and chat with us, this was defiantly a sad deal for the entire boat racing family, we talked to him that morning for a good half hour, he will truly be missed in the pits

Mark and I had some great races together that I won't ever forget. He was by far the toughest of racers. I remember him coming to the races, checking out our boats and talking about getting into it. Who knew how strong he would really become. May you race in peace and we'll see you on the other side.

It just really sucks because it seems like just yesterday he was catching my little league games and trying to help coach my basketball team even though we had coaches. That's just the type of guy he was, always wanted to get involved and help wherever he can.
You know, I can sit here for hours and just tell stories about the guy which is basically what we all have been doing with all the family and friends and just trying to laugh at all the shenanigans he has pulled over on us over the years, those stories never get old haha.
He is just the type of guy that will make an ass of himself to get people rolling even in some of the more serious moments like he was 16 all over again.
He will be missed, never a dull moment with him around.
P.S. Sorry for sob stuff, it's just hard to not bring up all the great things about him.

No need to apologize.
I have only met Mark maybe a dozen times and only at the races.
He always was a welcoming person in the pits and was a friendly familiar face every time I was at the races.
That being said, the "all business face" came across when you heard "Comp Jets to the ramp!"
He was a true sportsman and a great ambassador to what the spirit of Comp Jet was all about.
In all seriousness, I hope this tragic event does not damage the already delicate survival of the Comp Jet Class.
Thank you for sharing some of your insight to whom he was. He is still watching over you.

I just got off the phone with his Dad, Jerry and he asked me to post the information on the services for Mark. The viewing and service will be held on Sunday, December 13 at the Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City, CA. Viewing at 12:00 with the service at 3:00. The address is: 27010 Encanto Dr, Sun City, CA. Take the McCall exit off the 215 and it is in sight of the freeway. All friends and racers welcome.

Hello again all,
I put up a rough version of Mark's Memorial Site (http://markyunker.com) and invite you all to visit. There is still a lot more content that needs to be added, but the base functionality of the site is there. I created a "Wall" where you can go and write a letter to Mark to store it in the "cloud", post you feelings, or whatever you wish to say.

Well, yesterday was Mark's service and keeping the circumstances in mind, it was a huge success. And I would personally like to thank everyone here for their continued support for us (especially for Kelsy and Kendyl).
I met a few people from the CJ racing community yesterday and wish that it was for another event like a race or something but unfortunately it was not :( I look back and am thinking to myself that it is easy to say Mark has touched a lot of people, which I know he did, but after walking up to the podium to support Kendyl during her eulogy and looking into the crowd, I think that a lot is a massive understatement.
I remember the day that all of us went to the mortuary to scope it out and we had asked what the capacity of the Chapel was. Justin (the gentleman we spoke to) quoted us ~200 with a little wiggle room for more. Well, there was quite a few people standing around in the back, outside, and along the walls. My mother, Kendyl, and myself were even sharing some seats.
The reason I am telling you this is because this is probably only a fraction of the people that Mark touched, and in turn touched Mark. And as Kendyl put it, he would have loved all the attention he was getting.
I am posting an image of Mark's rig that he drove. He wasnt only about high power boats, but someone from PRS was kind enough to show tribute by hooking up his piece of equipment and bringing down to the mortuary. He not only kicked ass in racing and bowling but also kicked assphalt.
Again, thank you all for your support over the weeks deep down from the bottom of my heart.

I made the trek down from Vegas to attend the ceremony. The turnout was awesome. Even some of the guys from Idaho came down. The venue was so packed, there was no standing room even in the front lobby. I loved the amount of people who showed up to support. Firing up his boat back at his house was very touching and put a huge knot in my stomach. Mark was a great guy and loved by many. Thank you and your family for making it possible for everyone to attend!

I really appreciate that Brad. People like you and the ones that come from other states for a Sunday service that take this to another level of gratitude. In all honesty, I think it turned out perfect just from the large amount of people that showed their respects for such a great man. Just like "Good" Mark said, there are no words that can describe who he was. All you had to do was spend 5 minutes with him to see what he was like.

I didn't come from out of state but we drove in and paid our respects. My fiancé and myself have known mark for a couple of years and this was something I didn't want to miss. Like Brad mentioned starting his boat in front of his house gave me goose bumps and a huge knot in my stomach. I was standing there thinking to myself that any moment Mark would be there laughing and telling jokes, well he was there in sprit. I think everyone felt that. I was standing in the back during the service and saw a picture of Mark and myself at the sand bar at Aha Quin and I still couldn't believe why we were all there. Mark was and is a great man. He will be missed greatly by me and my family. Thank you to the whole family that made this possible for everyone to celebrate marks life.
