Hi all this might be a long shot but has anyone ran their boat on the Mississippi river? I usually run around on the Missouri river but my family and I are going to go over there for a three day weekend. I was curious if there's anything to look out for or if the water level is stupid high right now, and if it is will there still be any sand bars?
-
It's really high right now so I doubt there will be any sand bars. When the water levels normal there are tons of sand bars to party at. As long as you stay in between the bouys on the main channel you'll be good, but honestly I'd stay away until the water recedes.

Ok cool I appreciate the info I was gonna get out on the Missouri this weekend, and it's super high too but didn't know if the Mississippi was about the same.

I've never been on the Missouri but when the waters right the Mississippi is really good. I'm pretty sure it has a much slower current

I dont know where you are at or where you were wanting to go on the Mississippi but me and brian ( stewie5409 ) are in missouri. And we are in what they call the Alton Boating Pool whis is one of the most active boating pools on the Mississippi river. The alton boating pool covers from below the winfield dam to the alton dam. And both brian and myself are very active boaters out there and run the Mississippi quite a bit. And like he said, it is still pretty high and personally, my boat will not be going out anytime soon. Or atleast until it drops some more.

Check out riverbills.com it will give you all the info you need about the Mississippi or missouri river and tell you the level of the river and all.

Here is a recent picture of the Mississippi. The picture is in grafton of the grafton river road. There is a 2 week difference between the pictures. The river is now in its banks but still quite high

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm over here by st.joseph mo I pretty much boated the Missouri most of my life. The plan was to put in a Hannibal mo and go do some exploring. On the Missouri we used to have some restaurants and gas stations but all the floods shut them down. I've seen pictures of some spectacular sand bars and really want to go check it out.

Nice. Yea the sandbars are badass and there are a few restaurants and marinas that are fun to hang out at. It's just right now even people experienced with the area don't even wanna risk it. It's just gonna be too nasty for a bit.
