Well I started my project. Its a 1981 Eliminator bubbledeck powered by a Ford 460BBF. I decided it was time for a change so the boats now in the hands of Sal over at Orange County Boat Repair. Sal and his crew are capping the hull, filling in the transom holes, adding a thicker transom plate, filling in gauge holes and making the gunnel brand new. They are also renewing the inside by filling all stringer holes, sanding floor and adding gunnel plates so I can bolt in the new tanks. I also asked for some advice the other from you guys with what you think I should do with the motor. Keep the ford or build a Chevy. I weighed out my options and decided to build a Chevy BB instead. Gave the first installment to the engine builder to get the ball rolling. Boat should be done by December as well as the motor. Hopefully the boat will be getting rigged in January and I can get it back in the water by summer. Here are some pics of what I got so far.

Thanks, I can't wait to see the final product. I know the boats gonna look totally different. My biggest investment is the motor. Starting from the ground up. Never owned a Chevy before always fords.
-
Sal is a great guy. They have regelled two boats for me.
Tell them Ron says Hi
-
How much to regell a boat? 73 miller
-
All white and one color I was quoted about $6000.00. That was brand new insid and out. I am keeping my original gelcoat because it is in great shape.
-
Martinez marine in corona is around 3000 for 7 colors.

Actually I called them after I talked to you in Elsinore, they quoted me a lot higher price. Said the last 7 color they gelled top and bottom was closer to 7k unfortunately. I woulda dropped 3 on my tx in a heartbeat but now looking for plan B
Unless you have the hookup over there and would like to share 😁👍 lol. Maybe I got the wrong guy or something or their prices changed I dunno.

I think he said single color top only was like 4000. But I plan on at least two colors and definitely need to do the bottom. Wish I had needed this done a year and a half ago!

That's probably what's gonna happen now. Do you know what kind of clear got used on yours? I hear good clear is the key to making paint as durable as possible. I used house of kolor show clear on my Tahiti

It was house of kolors clear as well. It seems pretty tough.

Gotcha, that's good to know. I liked it pretty well so maybe I'll use the same thing this time.
Sorry jackselininator! Didn't mean to thread jack you

Got a few update photos of the cap job in progress.
-
Did they fiberglass that in first? Looks great but all I can see is the filler
Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats

Yeah. I went over there and watched the process. They fill the seam with fiberglass the lay mat over the top of that to seal the top and bottom. The filler is to define it. The other side has way less filler. Picture was taken before sanding was complete. This boat was done the same way and is awesome
-
Gotcha! That orange boat looks great! What colors are you doing on this one?

I'm keeping it the exact colors it is now. The gelcoat was in great shape.
-
Got word that the boat should be coming out of the shop this weekend. Can't wait to pick it up, then it's off to get rigged. Stopped by the engine shop today and took alook at all my parts coming in. Good news is I will have it in a couple of weeks.

Those heads look killer polished! What did the polish set you back?

What engine builder are you using? As far as the re-gel, did you have to strip the hull down yourself or do they pull out all the interior and engine for you?

In regards to the cost of the head polishing. I'm not sure yet. I haven't received my final bill with the cost breakdown but when I do I will pm you. My engine builder is Advance Racing Engines out of Downey, CA. His name is Heath Hiebert. On what I'm having done to my boat I completly stripped the interior as well as pulled the motor for them.
-
Super stoked!!! Picked the boat up from the boys over at Orange County Boat Repair and man did it come out great. The cap, gunnel and transom look great. Gotta get some better pictures in the daytime.
-
Couple more

Did they restore the original gel or redo it completely? Looks great btw

Merry Christmas everyone. I got it like I was promised. A really big shout out to Advance Racing Engines and Heath Hiebert for getting me one step closer to finishing.
-
Looking good, should be a real kick in the pants when it's done.
-
Well haven't updated in a while so here's what I got going on. The boats in good hands over with the boys at B1-Racing. Chris and Joe are killing it over there. Set backs complete, rail kit almost done (looking killer), calgo steering and some other fab left. More pics to follow. As for the motor, picked up a few accessories along the way. Also had IMCO fab me up some fuel custom tanks. Long way to go but definitely worth the wait.
-
This project is so cool to watch come together. Lots of great ideas. Maybe once you're done we can start on mine, seeing it's taking up space in your garage.
