Title: Need Advice From People Who Know!
Post by: missleman on August 15, 2009, 06:15:11 PM
Hi there.  As you can see I am new here.  This is my first post and I am already asking for help.

I am currently saving money to buy a boat in the spring.  I want a jet boat but I have a little issue I am sure many of you have.  Namely.... A wife.  Funny as it may seem, my wife is not afraid of water but is uncomfortable at times on the water.  Therefore, I am looking for a jet boat with a little more size to it.  I really like the Omega and Spectra DayCruisers.  Then there is the other problem.  My daughters want an open bow.  I know this is my boat but I want the entire family to enjoy so I am trying to get what I want while getting the things they want.  In the open bow category, I really love the Carreras and Crusaders.

My question is, can anybody give me any names of other manufacturers that made daycruiser style open bows?  Where is the best place to look for them?  California, Arizona?  Are there any other classified websites out there besides Craigs List.  I know these boats are out there as I see them for sale all the time in California on Craigs List.....  Just looking for a little insight from what sounds to be the pros here.  I am a rookie at this but I want to buy myself a turn key boat that won't need too much done.  Any advice?  Please!!!

What kind of budget are you working with?

Sorry, should have included that.  Well.....  The best way to explain it is this.  I should have around $7000.00 by May.  I would like to get a "mostly" turn key boat.  If there needs to be (very) minor work done to the jet or engine that is OK.  If the upholstery is toast and I were to get the boat around $4000.00, that would be OK as well.  I guess I just want something that within a short amount of time after getting it, I can have it in the water.

I am one of those guys that if it is the "right boat" for the "right price", I would spend the entire amount on a boat that needs a little work.  The other day, I located a beautiful Daytona daycruiser, on a nice tandem trailer, a recently rebuilt SBC, Berkeley pump and new interior for right at $5000.00.  That would be perfect.  It seems as though there are good deals out there.  Just don't have it all saved up right now.

Use Craigslist and Ebay to find the style boat you want, then search some of the boat site classifieds (like SCJB, River Daves Place...) before you buy, because the regulars will normally give first shot to somebody on the boards before posting on Craigs/Ebay.
