Decided to get a flatty again, just a beater, trying to have it done for the Parker SoCal thing. Bought it cheap had to convert it to left side steer, cleaning it up a little bit and dropping a 598 pump gas Chevy in it

Nice. Im sure she will run pretty decent with that little 598 in her lol

Got the dash done and painted, I still have to color sand it and buff it
Sending all of the parts to competition coatings for powder coating and to Juan to get polished, I should be able to start bolting stuff in for good next week, also going to pick up the engine this weekend

Dash looks great. Look forward to watching the rest of the build

I got the cav stuff and everything else mocked up, then stripped everything down to go get it powder coated and polished, and so I can finish the work on the hull, 3 more weeks until the SoCal thing in Parker and I still have a shit load of work to do on it, hopefully I get it done

You didn’t waste any time on this, 2 month turnaround? Great work, hope you hit 90.

Didn’t hit 90 because the bitchen billet carb on it doesn’t work on boats apparently, but everything went great, boat handles good no leaks and no issues, we had it out Saturday in Parker and then Sunday in Havasu. Ordered a 1250 dominator and should be back on the water next week, definitely not going out this weekend

What was wrong with the billet carb? I have one on my boat and works like a champ.

It’s a single barrel, pro systems. They are meant for nitrous cars or tractor pulls. I talked to the guy at Pro systems he said they don’t have a mid range circuit to them only high and low, they are meant for on or off no in between.

Got the new carb, bolting it on and going out today to test it out, and then to Parker this Saturday, living by the river is rough,

It’s the prettiest thing on this tub, boat hauled ass still needs a little more set up, prop has a lot of lift so the nose is flighty, it does take a set as long as my foot is on the down pedal, it is a blast to drive, nice to be back in a flatty again

After another year of beating the hell out of this thing, it’s time to give it some love, especially after the v-drive pucked all the oil out of it. Rebuilding the v-drive getting the cases sand blasted, re-glassing the bulkhead back to the deck, fixing the broken tank straps, and whatever else I can find so I can beat the hell out of it next year

Damn man...your a little rough on shit ain't ya lol didnt ya just get her all dialed in or real close to it only about a year ago? Bummer ya gotta tear it all down already but I guess atleast it will.be done and good to go and you wont have to worry about anything once it's done...

That’s just the joys and f having a flatty.Between my dad, me and my son, we beat the hell out of this thing, and it was on the water from March until 2 weeks ago, and almost 2 times a week. I said I would be happy if it ran in the 90’s well side by side with my cousin in a 21 Daytona on GPS it went 94mph. A few pics from 2 weeks ago with it. With 3 generation driving it

Definitely not taking this one to horsepower fest. Since it’s upside down to glass the bulkhead decided to straighten the bottom and speed coat it too.

Drop through strut is waisted, I’m putting a heavy duty bolt up strut, but unfortunately I have to fill the hole in the boat. This became a lot more work then planned

Not as productive as those guys on the raffle boat, but we did sand on this bottom all day long and got the new strut set in place.

I like how you tied into the motor plate. Are you ever concerned about torque forces between the engine and strut causing problems? I wanted to do something like this with a pump brace, but was talked out of it because we didn't want to risk cracking the epoxy.
Do you epoxy the strut support to the hull?

Because it was so close to the engine mount it wouldn’t really matter if I tied it into the the rails or the engine plate. If I would have made a plate going to the rails it would have been pretty much right under the engine plate anyways, it made it look a little cleaner, and with the bell housing on, it kind of hides it. This is a stout old circle boat, so keeping everything tied together isn’t a bad thing. My K-boat had solid rails from the v-drive to the transom with a solid driveline, and the strut tied into it. The strut is epoxied in but more to help me align it not so much for strength. A pump also has a lot bigger mounting surface then a strut so it has more room to crack around it if that makes any since

I will never forget reading an article about the team who built the first first Dodge Viper to compete in La Mans in the early '90s. The engineer said that if every part on the car is not performing at least three functions, it is not doing its job (and is adding too much weight). For example, the rear bulkhead firewall is also the front wall of the fuel cell and the back upright of the seats. This has driven all of my design philosophies ever since.
I like what you did. It effectively ties in the engine in three planes. Also integrating the engine block as a structural component.
On a jet boat, the hole cut for the intake substantially weakens the hull. You can see and feel it moving before the intake is set. This is worse with a full setback. The few V-drives i have worked on had massively thick hulls compared to jets.
Always enjoy your work.
Cheers,

Thanks. Ya the bottom of this boat if about 3/4 of an inch thick, it’s a heavy circle boat hull. As bad as we beat on this thing I have to make it stout
