I sold a few of my guns so I could buy a new one. I picked up my Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Target in Stainless today. I can't wait to go shoot it.

Very nice. my Grandfather has a couple of those as well as 1911's that made it through the wars, and i have to say theres a reason why those guns are so sought after. very col

It is hard to beat the 1911. They've been around forever, work fine pretty much in any condition, and the 'smiths have figured out how to make them EXTREMELY accurate and reliable. Personally, I only have one. One my Grampa gave me all beat up and crap. But my favorite, and my carry gun, is my S&W 4506/66/96 combo pack (And it's 10mm Evil Twin Sister, yes with all the same slide/barrel combinations) which are double action decendants of the 1911 design. :thumbup:

Thanks Ray, I plan to start shooting it competitively here locally with a group called Yuma MatchMasters. I was using my 9mm but they ding you points wise for using small bullet (its easier to shoot). Ordered another $100 bucks worth of crap to go with it (holster, magwell, grips, etc). Should be ready for next month's meet.

I'm too fat to carry inside waist band. I use a blackhawk Serpa with the paddle attachment. I usually carry my xd concealed. But not sure with 1911, hard to conceal 5 inch barrel lol.

I carry my Kimber each and every day! 1911 is THE way to go. .45 will stop em If I ever have to use it!

still easier than being too skinny (me). with the TSC IWB a Glock 22 is easy. If I had a bigger waistline and more belly it might never be seen. Sounds like the intro to a good joke...

fwiw-Avoid cheapo lead, shoot jacketed and your piece will last. Especially if you are a lazy cleaner.

I hear ya on cheapo ammo. I never use the stuff, but I have friends who have and had all kinds of issues besides cleaning. This is actually my second 1911, my first was a Kimber Pro Carry. I loved it, but I sold it because it was getting pretty worn.

You could easily add a "Commander" sized barrel and slide to yours from a concealment standpoint, but that would lose the "fitting" that has been done to make yours a "target" model.
Easily fixed, but why bother. Your new 1911 is smaller than my Smiths with their 5" barrel assemblies on and I can carry mine concealed easily......(I'm 5'11" and 190 lbs or so).
X2 on the cheap ammo though. I could shoot my 10mm's all day (Even back when factory ammo WAS available, nowadays all handloads) and just wipe it off. The .45's? Another ballgame. I only use handloads in mine because of this. My stainless gun used to look like I need to call in a HazMat team after a magazine or two of factory ammo through it. HOURS I spent disassembling and cleaning that thing! Only my handloads in it from then on!
Perps.......sue me........FWIW, the 10mm is the one on me most of the time.........a 180 grain Silvertip hollow point bullet loaded at well over 1300 FPS vs a 230 grain Silvertip hollow point loaded at close to 900..........please O0
You don't wanna know the kinetic energy involved.....nearly double.......What it hits, it destroys......plain and simple......
