Title: Newb question.....
Post by: ONE-A-DAY on June 10, 2014, 04:36:41 PM
When I back my Daytona 19 in to the water it seems as if there is an air pocket in the pump.  When I fire it up the pump and water cooling doesn't work for about a minute and then it makes like a burp sound and starts pumping.  Is this a normal jet boat thing or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks, 35 years of owning boats, first time with a jet, lots of questions.

yup...normal....its air trapped in the pump.

you can get a nozzle like this that drills into the top of the bowl to release the trapped air......but honestly, just give it a few seconds and it will burp it out.

Very common side effect of droops.
I would normally back the boat in with the reverse gate open and maybe even backing it in slower to help the "burping" along.

Yup just happened to me 2 weekends ago,  was getting dropped in warming the boat a little and ready to back out no moving for a little bit. Thought I might have screwed up on my bowl conversion. I didn't know about this, Thanks for the info
