Ok guys first off y'all should be ashamed! I have enough hobbies and toys and now bc of y'all this site and the pics and vids I am now on the hunt for a jet boat. They are kinda scarce here and when found the owners of proud. I have got word of a 79 biesemeyer (not sure of spelling) that has been sitting in a field. I was told it looks like it has. Guy said it has 350 and berk pump and 2 axle trailer. He is asking 2500. I don't mind a project and have faith that in y'all talking me through whatever I run into. So basically I'm asking for what y'all think a fair price is and what should I be looking for as deal breakers?

If its been sitting in a field, i say look it over very good, rotten wood, stringers, what kind of fuel tanks? An so on

X3, a lot of pics including the jet and surrounding area (inside & outside hull). What state are you in?
In the long run, it could be cheaper to bring a boat in from long distance. I commend you for your ambition to take on a huge project, but unless you are capable of doing everything yourself, this could take many years and huge dollars, but don’t let me dissuade you if this is your form of enjoyment.
While you are looking over every inch, tap on the glass to check for soft spots and delaminations. How is the upholstery? What condition is engine in and/or does it have any rare parts that could be sold to classic car enthusiasts to help finance perhaps an LS swap? While you are looking over the engine, get the head, block, and intake casting numbers.
In general, add up the cost of everything you will need to repair or replace (including your time and materials) and compare that to the cost of a long distance purchase.

Thanks for the replies. It may be more trouble than it's worth but ya know when you've been bit by the bug the urges are hard to fight lol. Just trying not to do anything too stupid yet.
Joe I have considered buying a boat and having it shipped but not real crazy ab buying without seeing. Even tho I don't what I'm looking at yet lol. But I will consider all options and I welcome all advice as I'm still in diapers when it comes to these.

If you have the time and money I recommend driving west. I'm in north west Missouri and ran into the same problem was finding rotted out over priced jets, so I drove 1550 miles one way and got my dream jet boat in great shape for a good price well worth it I think and in the long run you'll save time and money.

I'm near the Pensacola are for a few weeks and I found a few around here on Craigslist that didn't look to bad. Of course seeing photos of one and seeing in person is usually a complete different story

Pthomas I remember reading ab you taking the trip out to get your boat (at least I think it was you).
I'm ab 30 min from birmingham. I can find a few here and there but the money people want is just crazy and no where near the boats I see on here. There is one right now on craigslist in AR with no motor for 10grand. I'm still gonna go look this weekend but now I'm turning my attention more out west. I'm sure if I can keep my wants under control I'll find a jewel somewhere.

This is boat in AR. It's a 19 ft mantra it said but I've never heard of them but I don't see 10g and no motor but I could be wrong. It happened once before lol

You might not have to go any farther west than Texas. Check out Texas Hot Boats website and see if you find something you like. And like stated before, if you have any questions or concerns post it here and I'm sure you'll get several helpful answers (and a few not so helpful... hey it is the internet).

I'm glad I bought mine in CA before I moved to NC.
Craigslist sucks this side of the Mississippi. Every Cletus wants to retire off some used up heap that's been neglected out 'hind the woodshed.

Exactly. I honestly couldn't believe the price diff from east to west. But as soon as I get one they'll be super cheap and nobody will want one lol. But oh well

I did exactly that 2 summers ago. I checked Craig's list and scoured the interweb' for leads. I drove out to Parker and worked my way to BHC and looked at 20+ boats. Pictures can be VERY deceiving .....you have to crawl inside, over and under and check everything. I wound up buying one of the first boats I looked at.... but was very glad I took the time to search....
there will
be a myriad of sellers and boat conditions .....and prices will be all over the map. due diligence is the key. put the boat on the water before any cash is exchanged. I'm very happy with my choice. Plus I got a little River time in before I headed home.
