Hi all,
I need some help trying to figure out the value of an 89 Advantage 21' Bowrider jet, 454 what's it worth?
Here's what I know about it, I have done some research but total newbie to this sport. I'm lookimg to trade my jeep/rock crawler for it and want to see what its worth.
It has a stock bbc 454 with a dominator pump, AA impeller, place diverter, bimini top, bow cover, boat cover, tandem trailer. Interior is new done a few months ago and hasn't been taken out since new interior. When the interior was done owner converted it into an open bow. Out of state but boat looks to be in clean condition? Pics attached
Any help is appreciated as I have always been into the off road from a lil kid and time to move into something new. Oh yeah lake is down the street and I drool at the boats I see at Costco parkng lot in the summer, lol. The kids love the water so looking forward to it! Any tips, advice on what to look out for would be great. What's this advantage worth $$$?

It looks great but I don't know a lot about them the conversion makes me wonder about the value. What the jeep/crawler look like? As far as a trade goes if its something you want and or like its always worth it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and welcome to the club. Here's the trade I did last summer for my first jet boat.

I may be way off here and I didn't look it up but I would say around 8-9k range what's the jeep worth but then again I agree with jet boat Maloney too!! Hope this helps a lil bit good luck welcome to the site and it's a great lookin boat too advantage is a well made boat

8-9 is fair if it was a runner. but with missing exhaust tubing who knows what else is going to be a problem if you cant start the motor. id toss an offer (or trade value) of closer to 6-7k in its current condition in the pix and given the time of year prices are down and theres PLENTY of boats to be had.

That's a nice looking boat and may be a good deal. I would caution against making any decisions based on pictures. Pictures can be VERRRY deceiving. Where is this boat located, you said it's out of state? I would definitely get some knowledgeable eye's on it. It looks like it isn't all the way put back together, exhaust isn't connected and what else???? If you can get it out here local to you, take it to GS marine in Norco and let Greg look at it, you couldn't get a better person to evaluate a boat IMO. Good luck.

I wouldn't call an Advantage a "great boat" personally. A good boat yeah. Being as the interior has been done, a lot if sins can be hidden.
These hulls were prone to wood rot because they never used a lot of fiberglass in the interior, this was done to keep them lighter for performance but it does not make a super durable hull.
Grab a small ball peen hammer and tap around on the boat interior where you no there is wood. Obviously not where it will damage anything, it should sound like your whacking concrete, if it sounds like hard cardboard, put your tools back in the box and walk away calmly.... ???
I agree with the $8-9K, but that would be at the high end of the spectrum. I would offer $5k and see what happens.
It all depends on what you want. The open bow conversion does make me squirm too much, you can push/pull and check the stiffness of the bow area, I have seen dozens of these done and done right.
I doubt there is anything really special about the engine, run of the mill stock Indmar. A compression check never hurt anyone...
Don't buy a damn thing without driving it first. Guaranteeing the guy buying the jeep will drive it first. ;)

By the way, not hammering Advantage, I knew Harry Christensen personally (RIP buddy) and worked closely with John Sepulvida of Advantage in the mid 90's.

Also if you look carefully no steering wheel like kaotyk said what else is missing I'm starting to agree more towards the 5k range with gt

I bought my 89 Commander from Nate off of this site and paid 5 for it , and Nate had gone through the boat from top to bottom so I think 8 to 9 is a little high unless you just have to have it .

Thanks to everyone, wow you guys are fast!
He has exhaust tubing, and told me boat is in running condition, also another 75' bbc 454 spare included that he said he had plans to build up to a 500hp motor(stock). We agreed that he would bring it down here from Seattle and run it on the lake here if we close deal. Coworker very knowledgeable and his dad who used to race boats said they would be there for delivery to help me out and test run. They actually both said $8-9k also, but just wanted to get another opinion since very new to this. I out my jeep on forum for sale and possible trade and this is how this boat came up. He also mentioned stored for last 2 years indoors but pulled out of his shop and wrapped up for the winter to store outside after new interior.
My current crawler is worth approximately $8k. Keep the great feedback coming!

I can tell you this if you took that boat to west coast enteriors you would pay over 5 grand for the way that enterior looks in that boat

If someone paid more than $3000 for that interior they got screwed so bad they whistle in high winds....

if anything i think converting to an open bow increases value. less and less people have their own boats so you end up bringing more friends along. a boat that can hold 6+ with gear is more desirable to some than a boat that only seats 5. ill be converting mine to an open bow in the near future. open bows can be cool too!

Be careful I was exicted to by my boat 96 ultra open bow .did not now any thing about boats.the guy started my boat sounded good brought it home from landcaster took it to silverwood started it up put in gear and sharted every part in my dominater pump plus floor had week spots 12 grand later its now a bad ass boat.work done by gs marine one stop shop.lake test your boat do not trust any body.there are plenty of open bows out there that came from factory.any thing made in to a open bow has week spots.I will show you my ultra the boat needs to be solid hull top and bottom.there is a lot of dishonest people..lake test your boat....

I've used Martinez in Corona. Very knowledgeable people. There are several good upholstery shops that can do a nice job for a fair price. I think some of these big name guy's charge too much just for their name, but that's just my opinion. If your not rolling in a $40,000 boat maybe you don't need the biggest name in the area doing your interior. I know a couple shops in San Bernardino that do nice work at a much more reasonable rate if your ok with a good job, maybe not a great job.

X2 on Martinez we have my dad's boat there now for complete new interior and carpet they also did my bench conversion on my boat very fair in price and amazing work. Eddie and his dad run a great shop and they are not hard to deal with at all.

if you take it there talk to Eddie let him know your a friend of will Shipley mad he usually hooks all my friends and family up. He is leaving the 19th mad will be gone till January 6th so if you don't go by then wait till he comes back. I'm also taking my boat there the end of January so he can make me another towable cover. My buddy had a mishap with mine and now owes me a new cover.

On this YES...if I read back right on condition:
You do not have to remove the steering wheel and exhaust hoses to put in a interior - Big Flag!
Converted to open bow by him?....This is major surgery my friend!
New interior, as said....whats hiding under it? Look at my float - 1990....factory interior....this is a cared for boat.
As you are trade your options are not as good. Sell the jeep, buy a boat w/cash(cause cash frigging talks). There are 20 boats like this - better condition......buy in fall -winter/sell in spring - summer!!

x2 with laveyjoel the bow looks kind of off who did it? How was it done the more info you are sharing with us the more I wanna say run from if here is a pic of my carrera 202 Xr bowrider I don't really have a pic of the bow honestly there are more boats out there just be careful if your in Elsinore I might be goin there on Sat with my cousins boat to test it if you wanna come along shoot me a pm
