I like the site as it is easy to navigate (important after several margaritas) and I sense there is a lot of knowledge beneath the heavy layer of sarcasm and wit. It does seem a bit slow at times considering 500 members. I love the fact that it doesn't need cookies loaded to my computer to work like many of the other sites. Roost on!

That's going to really entice the women/ladies/girls/females to post (see beerj, alot of better terms to use).

I think this site is great, I have asked a few questions about the river and got most answered. I have never taken the boat to the river and next month I will be gone. Hope I got the correct anchors to keep the boat from floating away.

... Hope I got the correct anchors to keep the boat from floating away.

A friend of mine uses a 3' bar about 1/2" thick with a metal circle welded on the end of it. Works great in the sand and is easy to use, just tie your boat to the circle and push the bar down into the sand.

thanks for the kind words guys....i put a lot into this place on a daily basis to keep it running in tip top shape.

It does seem a bit slow at times considering 500 members.

Considering that there is only 5-10 people on at any given time, yes, this site is slow. I am using a crappy shared server host and want to move it to a new one, but I am very concerned it might bomb out durring the transfer, not to mention it would take A LOT of work.

No worries . . . we'll just keep it a secret. Hey I had a thought, how about free beer instead of stickers to members. That should pump up membership a bit doncha think?

trust me.....i'd love to give away more free crap to help promote this site, but my budget only allows for the crappy stickers  ;)
Title: Re: Newbies chime in please
Post by: GlassCutter on May 21, 2007, 01:33:31 PM
I dunno, when people advertise they want traffic to the "store."  I saw a lot of peeps asking, whineing, bitching about stickers. Think of the noise people would make if they heard there was free beer and that they didn't get theirs. Word would really spread fast if peeps heard that there was free beer somewhere. What's that? Oh somebody has to actually buy the beer to then give it away. Ummm nevermind.

Brad: I don't believe that GlassCutter meant the server response is slow, I think he meant because there are 500+ registered members there would be more people posting.

What ! All this kinky talk and nobodies even bothered to give me a good crack on the ass. I feel cheated .  :'(

All kidding aside , I have made this place my home and I really hope for the sake of the entire site that it grows deep roots in the tech sections for all the diffrent drives as they are all part of this big thing we call boating and of course the history lessons which are my favorites and the all the BSing that goes on everywhere else in hopes that one day we will all get together have a drink put some names to some faces and carry on memories with good friends , family and keep this boating thing alive for the next generation .

I've been watching this site for a couple months now and really it has a great bunch of people that have straight information when needed and a good sense of humor the rest of the time  ;D.
I am now the proud new owner of a 77 Hondo T-deck that I rescued from the Central Valley and brought back to SoCal where it belongs.  I'm trying to get it ready to take to the river this weekend.  I'll post some pictures soon.

Keith.

still puting it together, needs to go back to the airbrusher to fix a couple of things and then put together, i took everything out of for paint, so wiring. plumbing, tanks, jet, motor, interior, gauges, steering all need re-installed, waiting on parts to come back from powdercoat, and i should finish the floor tonight, thanks for the compliment on the paint, my airbrusher spent alot of time on it.

I like this site, its easy to Nav in and laid out well. The only problem I can see is Brad needs to draw more traffic to it. A few ways is stickers on boat trailers, rear windows of trucks, bars, etc. Which HE is already doing. This way  everywhere you see a So cal Jet Boats sticker and people will be like what the heck is this place? The little tents he has already is a major plus! That really draws attention and you have to keep pluging away at it. You cant give up and soon it will take off on its own. Speaking of stickers, I would love to get a nice white one for the back of my tinted window and than a normal one for the trailer.

Newest member right here.  Been lurking for pretty much all of 07.  Decided to finally sign up.  Not sure if I am aloud here being from Norcal. ;)
But I love boats, especially jets and v-drives.  Unfortunately I cant say that I have a boat right now which is just sad.  Summer is wasting away and I cant even get off the shore.  Weak!
Anyway, this site is cool, I really enjoy checking out the pics and as I filter through sarcasm the insight on boats in general is good.

 Hello all
Iv'e been lurking around here for a while now and I guess it's time I started to speak up. My boat is a 77 18 ft Lancer (I know, nobody ever heard of it),it looks like a Tahiti but built like crap !! 460/jacuzzi yj (yuck) . Ive had it almost 5 yrs now. Sorry no pics, I hate to even look at it let alone take pics ! I had to have the motor done twice because someone didn't cleanout the oil passeges the first time(pumped metal shavings through the motor  >:( next trip out it spun the front bearing in the jet,had it fixed, next trip same thing this time at the back of the lake and water was flowing into the boat through the bearing  :o(assembled wrong) . Fixed it myself after that, no more problems . Next trip no problems ;D, or so I thought, got home and the boat was still dripping water so I look under it and what do I see , a BIG ASS CRACK IN THE HULL :'( :'( :'( !! So I gave up on this boat/pile of sh#@!!!! And bought the 21 ft Eliminator Daytona in the project boat section with the idea of useing my 460 and a Berkeley jc pump that I have sitting in my garage. So what do you all think of this plan or should I stick with the big ugly outboard ?

When I saw that boat the first thing that came to mind was to put a jet in it. That boat was a steal of a deal , congratulations on your purchase and for not being a lurker anymore welcome to the site. ;D

Any ideas of what would be needed to convert it , was the hull the same ? It has realy small stringers, only about 1.5 inches tall  :o .

Post by: Marcsrollin on July 24, 2007, 01:47:17 AM
I am not sure , maybe you should drag it to a performance boat shop and have them look at it. While you are there you can probably sell the out board to cover the cost or maybe trade  it for work done. Those stringers sound kinda small to put a big block in.

You know sav (and Paul), I'm new to all of this, but I think if the Olds is done properly it's a good motor (just need to address the oil return issue). In fact, if I had the know-how and $$, I'd like to build-up my 455 in my Kona and race it in the jet class for SCJB (I guess I should just get it running first  ;) ).

We will connect eventually; I can always get a ride with flytime when something is organized.
My plan with this first boat was to get it running, use this season, then sell it and try to find a deal on a project open bow (I have 3 kids so my Kona is just way too small); my plan still stands; I'll be pulling it apart and see what I've got; my guess is a piston rod and pan will get it back in action (but this season is likely done). If worst comes to worst, I'll part it out (but I don't want to go that route is I don't have to; I'd like to see this Kona live on).

The Kona(patches) can still live on even if someone else owns it a puts a new motor in. We cant lay patches to rest yet. :(

I know but only 2 ways to get money out of it so I can look for the open-bow project:
- Sell it in running conditions, or
- Part it out.

the builder says this one makes just as much power as the yellow motor my pland are to put a blower on in the very near future right now it 14 to 1 comp. and on race gas so no blower for this motor anytime soon

I'm not a fan of Fram filters.  Back in the 80's when I was selling parts Consumer Reports did a big test on filters and Fram was the only one NOT recommended for Toyota vehicles.  Now whenever we have an oil issue with a 8.1L Chevrolet engine in a Workhorse motorhome chassis the first thing my rep wants to know is what oil filter is on it.  Fram filters have been known to have cause problems in many applications.

My first choice for filters is Wix, than AC Delco, Motorcraft...

But the filter is not the cause of the engine not turning over right now, maybe after a 100 hours  ???

hey 82daytona,  just a heads up, i have the same style trailer with the front bumpers that go between the forks, that is what caused my premature need for a repaint and repair of the boat, had the trailer made for the boat (they kept the boat 3 mo to make the trailer) when i picked it up the front of the boat was pulled in tight to the bumpers (just carpeted 2x4), after about 4 trips to the river all the paint was gone in those places as well as alot of fiberglass, i am not running a rub rail either. now we run a floater from behind the hook and still use the winch from front but keep the boat about 2.5 - 3" off the front bumpers, just something to watch for (if you look in my gallery at the before pic with boat in my garage, look closely and you can see the black on the boat, that is the fiberglass.
Title: Re: Newbies chime in please
Post by: 82daytona on August 20, 2007, 09:28:42 AM
yeah i saw that on my boat it already is rubbing so you said a floater ? whats that thanks
Title: Re: Newbies chime in please
Post by: FORKEDUP on August 20, 2007, 09:34:02 AM
floater bar---piece of flat metal that connects to the trailer behind the bow hook, has a slot cut in for the bow eye to go through and hold the boat from going forward or back but stills allows for the up and down movement (general description), i just out that over the bow eye then use my winch cable to lock it in place.
Title: Re: Newbies chime in please
Post by: FORKEDUP on August 20, 2007, 09:34:48 AM
sorry it is usually "hinged" at the trailer to allow for up and down movement

don't have any pics right now, just picked it up from the paint shop finally!! i am going to finish the floor tonight, then i should be ready to start bolting everthing back on and making the wiring harness and ............i am hoping a couple of weeks it will be together again. i will work on some pics,  also check in the forum search, there was a thread called "name this part" or something close to that, it was about floater bars and had a pic of a really trick one
Title: Re: Newbies chime in please
Post by: FORKEDUP on August 20, 2007, 10:01:25 AM
just type floater bar in the search area, it will come up with about 5 matches, the top one is hotrods trailer for sale, there is a good pic there, it is the bar in the middle front of the trailer, once you see the pic you will know it. i think about the 4th thread down on that list is a blue trailer with a slightly diff set up, both work fine, the custom one is toward the bottom of the list
hope this helps ;D

thats what i though it was just had to verify i think i could make one pretty easy hey forkedup i saw a while back you were talking about insurance who did you find to cover you and how much ? i found a place here in town for about 600 for a year and that covers up to 40k
Title: Re: Newbies chime in please
Post by: FORKEDUP on August 20, 2007, 02:01:34 PM
as recommended by chromey and a couple of others

"TRY THIS LADY I GOT MY BOAT INS THROUGH HER FOR  220.00 FOR THE YEAR. MY GF TURNED ME ON TO HER. HER NAME IS REBECCA HIGGS ITS HER OFFICE STATE FARM. BUT ANY OF THEM WILL HELP YOU OUT. THE NUMBER IS 949 726 9015. ITS IN IRVINE. HOPE THEY CAN HELP"
talked to them and they were very pleasent and helpful, wasn't sure about insuring me since i am in az and them in ca, checked into and called me back like promised, they quoted $607 for a year and that covered the liability/medical, and the boat for 27k, if your guy will cover up to 40k for 600, let me know his info, i want to cover mine for more, 15k in paint, 13-15k in motor, jet, access, etc, well over 27k ;D

i have not signed with anyone yet, boat is sitting in the garage till done, so right now it is covered under other policies
Title: Re: Newbies chime in please
Post by: 2savage4you on August 20, 2007, 02:11:00 PM
If you think its covered under "homeowners" ins.  You better get additional, it has a motor. That is what i was told by my agent. If my house at that time burnt down it would not have been covered. Nice boat lots of $$$ i hope you have your ducks in a row ;D

I've been "riding" boats for awhile, and finally picked up my first jet boat about two months ago. Its a sweet little Southwind with a 468bbc. With having the family along, its fun to ride and yank someone off the tube. Nice site for us jet boaters!

Martinez this weekend!!! Can't be a far drive for you!!

It's right down the way too, but I have a few more weeks of working weekends. I should have weekends off in September. I'm sure the water will still be warm.  :-\

LMAO! Actually, I think Staples selling those particular Magellan's before Xmas 2 years ago musta had some deal lined up with Ebay!

Anyone (Other than Skip) heard the story of it sending me to Lake Elsinore THROUGH El Cajon a few weeks ago? (True story, same GPS, lol).

Ah yes, the infamous RGPS (R for retarded) Ray, you need to run that thing over with your truck, really.

For some reason all of the gps's i have bought after about 6 months of use start routing me the longest route possible.  Including having me make circles through residential neighborhoods, making me exit and get back on the freeway (on the same offramp).  Its rediculous.  Thats why costco is the best place to buy them.  Once they start to act up just return it and buy a newer model. :sly:
