Now that we have water and spring/summer is coming was wondering how many active NorCal boaters we have on here. What boat do you have? Where do you go? Lake soda of choice? I am itchin for some action. It is almost time.

That is a decent drive. Fourish hours? Surprised you havent made the shorter drive for a major weekend at camp far west. Almost a lil disappointed in you.

I have some friends that come down from Oregon, so it makes it roughly halfway for us.
Camp Far West is not super family friendly just to go boating. I like floating on the houseboat in a nice quiet cove, throw a fishing line in the water, eat way too much food, drink way too much bourbon and hang with family and friends in the quiet.
All while making a couple of exploratory boat runs, do some hiking in the mountains and expel some rounds out of the .22 and the 1911.
Besides, I can be on the lake in four hours and instantly start the recharge process, Camp Far West is a little over 3 hours and you have to set up camp. It's a wash for me.

And you are right, CFW isnt super family friendly yet I still drag mine out there from time to time. Lol
BUT rollin into the cove on a major weekend with 50+ hotrods doin their thing makes for a good time.

Dropping anchor in a quite cove is more my style as well. Although I've never been to CFW I've seen the pics and Father's Day looks like a hell of a good time. I don't have a drag boat just a weekend warrior. Is CFW big enough to peel away from the crowd and find a quite cove to hang in?

Iam in norcal we are at lake don pedro most of the summer. Family has a house boat there but i definitely would like to hit shasta up this year

Pine Flat no problem. Plenty running there. Flow at the Kings is real low now, One month it'll be raging w/ lots of floters. Remember those? Can be real problem. John Law's restricted speed limit to 35, finding to many "floaters"😖

Well sounds good. How's about a latter June or late July trip for us NorCal bunch. And any "others" that can go. Just tossing that out to chew on for now. We really have no preference as to where, we retired boaters.

Monday to friday morning is the only quiet time. And the south delta is a mess all weekend. No drag racing, just not a lot of space. But a ton of water to explore. Wakeboarders were bad, but the wake surfers have destroyed the water on the south end. Pretty useless for our types on the weekend

The delta is pretty fun down by Rio Vista, lots of channels to go explore and some good restaurants. Overall it's pretty quite down there once you get out a bit.

He aint lyin. Badass lake. Four developed campsites. Yet mellow because I have gotten in trouble a couple times because they really monitor noise after 10. Smooth as shit even in the middle of the day. One cove has a sandbar with people just standing in the water next to their boats in the water.

Ya! This lake normally holds water real well through summer. So even later in summer dont matter. My family and I are ready to plan a trip.

Rollins Lake has four independently operated campgrounds. Long Ravine, Greenhorn, Orchard Springs and Peninsula offer a combined 250 campsites and a complete range of services including stores, restaurants, fuel sales and boat rentals.

So I talked with my bud Tamsone6 and we will put this on together. We were thinking a chill weekend like the weekend before 4th of july or the weekend after. Sometime in the next month we will go scope out the campground and get a feel for the tent spots/motorhome spots. Have to make sure we can fit the boats. Also ask about reserving policies. Then we will, very begrudgingly😄, cruise the lake to look for a good day hangout spot. This is all tentative at this point, especially since both Tamsone6 and I are still finishing up our boats.
So let me know what you think? Questions you want to know we will try and get the answers.

Question # 1 Do they have fire rings at camping spots and or can you have a ground fire in say an old washer tub .

Along these lines...if those that are interested in going want to post up a list of must haves, that would help us find the best possible site to accommodate is and make sure we ask all the right questions.

I've been to some not so good. . Lakes .
The last lake I've been to was shaver . And the camp site was amazing. They had a pit a grill and a bathroom. Of course I towed all that "stuff" 4 hours and didn't need it .

Been going to orchard springs campground for years, nice people! Campsites are not bad they have hookups for the fifth wheel. Small beach at launch for kiddos. Rollins is small but the water is nice. For us it's worth the drive to hit Bullards bar bigger lake and fuel at the dock

I used to meet up with some members of Laid Back Boaters a few years ago in mid September.
The camp grounds were great and it always a good time hanging out with Cas, Sleek Vino, Billet Racing, Carrera Dude and many others.
The Tower Park trips were always fun as well.

Weather is finally turning nice and my boat hit the water for the first time in two years on monday. So no, not yet. But at the very least Ill check out the camp site next thursday because Ill be heading up 80.

So I checked it out this weekend. The lady was nice enough to help me out by highlighting everything that was available. I drove around the site and took pics. Pretty cool, mountain camp ground. 100+% full and overflowing.

This was the meadow camp spots that are about a 1/4 mile from the water. #'s 203-208. Restroom with showers is a small walk away.

These are spots 253a, 253b, 254a and 245b. This is their waterfront spots on top of the hill. Only 4 available. With a bathroom close by.

Heck ya! Find you a spot and backer on down. Put your popup up and you are good to go. Only problem is this weekend can get crowded in the cove and shoreline can be tough to come by. Earlier the better.

Southgate off of Mcourtney Rd. Pay at the shop at the right. Then go straight. You will see the ramp straight ahead and the gravel parking lot on the left, turn left and go up the hill. You will drive through all the camp spots. This road will lead you to the cove. Hopegully you find a spot. Sometimes you have to take a dirt road to get deeper into the cove. Wouldnt do that without a 4×4.

Not aware of the sign but from SAC it is about 40 miles more. East on 80 then north on 65.

I'd like to point out my 160 temp on my gauge also courtesy of a Tstat set-up working in Tandom with my 12psi Relief off my pump sending the right amount of water pressure into my block while keeping IMO optimal temp. Lol Gate valve pshhh.
Have the Holley 800 mechanical its dialed the Hallett is fast for a heavy boat rides great and keeps the ladies wet.
Also found wierd to me Ford 2 wire Alt on here drawing too much power so stuck a resistor on there to solve that issue. Never woulda know except I got curious with the Fluke one day.
Glad theres some water to play in up here in Norcal though

I just like the T stat to control the temp but I run my boat in lakes I probly wouldnt run the T-Stat in the river or sandy locations.
That was an old topic I was just trying to stor the pot a lil but No Bs it worked great on my boat. I got 160 temp and the Main Key was stopping the excess pressure to my block that kept blowing oil.
Been a few years now on my set-up instead of the Gate valve off the pump (For me I needed to ditch the gate)

That was an old topic I was just trying to stor the pot a lil but No Bs it worked great on my boat. I got 160 temp and the Main Key was stopping the excess pressure to my block that kept blowing oil.
Been a few years now on my set-up instead of the Gate valve off the pump (For me I needed to ditch the gate)
Never mind the fact that the front two cylinders only run at Lake temp on the with a 160°F head temp.
DON'T RUN THE STAT KITS WITH HEADERS!

What I mean by that is there is nothing preheating the entering water. You think the stat kit is doing something it's not.
Has nothing to do with keeping the headers cool.

Going to state it one more time and then I'll leave it alone.
Your set up, without exhaust logs or a recirculating pump, has a gigantic temperature differential from the front two cylinder walls to the front two cylinder combustion chambers.
Running in say 60°F water, with a 160°F outlet temp, a 100°F difference.
I never feel silly comfortable with more than a 60°F delta within the block.
I'm OK with the relief valve, it shouldn't be needed, but I'm OK with it. But the 160°F argument is silly.
The only ways I recommend running a thermostat package is an I/O type (absolutely the best) with a block mounted water pump, or with logs/preheater. This way the water entering the block is much warmer and close to the desired temp.
This reasoning is not made up gobblygoop. It is the same reason you don't put cold water in an overheated car, cold shock will break stuff.
If you were to put in a colder thermostat, like a 120°F, it would be much much safer.
You have to realize, it's OK to have such a huge delta at idle, because there is virtually zero load, but yours does it at WFO. Let's say 45hp per hole. The rear cylinders might survive, but the fronts won't.
Visualize a 60-70° cylinder wall with a 160° cylinder head. No engine in the world had that design criteria in mind. The water goes all the way through the block before it enters the head at the rear, same as a Chevy and a Mopar. So technically your still running a stone cold motor, but with extreme hot spots. That water doesn't move very fast, and the temperature won't be linear nor homogeneous. Wherever the water is slowest, it will be the hottest, may even turn to flash steam (aka steam pockets). This causes all sorts of carnage.
This is exactly why I set the boats up the way I do, they can have a cold leaving temp at wide open throttle, but warm it up at idle to heat the oil and bring things to temp.
Not sure where you and I got started on the pissing match, but I'm over it. Let's go boating and have a few beers.

I hear you on the delta and honestly without a probe on each I couldnt tell ya and Im not gonna do all that cause Im not that interested in getting that involved.
Im ok with how its setup currently and I had a Tahiti that was always about 100* without an issue lol
Im just happy we got some water up here to play in.
I got a 89 Malibu Skier last month only does 40 but is so much easier to climb back in lol but theres nothing like the Hallett.
I like all boats I like all motorcycles even though I have 2 Harleys and a new Husky but I have as much fun on my kids pw50 lol.
Im happy to have discussions on this board with everyone and hope we all find ways around issues with our boats on here.

So I just confirmed with CFW that the New Years Day event is still scheduled to happen. As long as the water level gets to a decent level and not raining.
Think I am going to take my boat out there for some play time. I won't try to mess with the big boys but an excuse to drive your boat during winter? Hells ya!!! We went out last year just to watch, it was a huge event and good time.
It is 80% those silly and a Lil gay V-drives(cough aquaholic cough) out there. Ya!!!
