Title: octane question
Post by: CHROMEY on June 19, 2008, 11:57:13 AM
the boat im borrowing for laughlin -AVI (blown hallet) takes a 50/50 mix of 110 and 91...(well thats what he uses) if you average it out its around 100 octane, here in vegas we can get 100 @ the pump at rebel and terible's would you all agree that would be fine?

It kinda depends on how you wanna drive it. You can get the 100 right on Lake Mead Pkwy. You can run the 91 if your not on it hard. We need to get it here and tuned, find out more about compression and what not. I just ran between 80 and 90 on that shitty water at Parker w/ the cav plates all the way down on 91. I'm 8:1 untill i start to make boost, we'll see what you got and go from there. Cant wait to see it.

Is the 100 leaded or unleaded? He might like the 110 due to the lead content.

On another note , anytime you borrow something you use what ever the owner asks you to use , not what is easier for you! Don't be a  O0 !!

.
I heard a story from some old salt flat guys about when Garlits was a pup. Said they kept trying to jet the old Stromburgs for nitro, finaly just took them out altogether. I have jets to 99, alky jets start at about 135 for the dominators

Nitro a gas don't stay mixed . :(
Cranking compression is different than static .
Static is what it is.
Cranking comp. hasto do with cam specs.
Have a blast!!! Pics of the boat!!!!  sounds sweet.
HD will have partner in crime. lol  I'll bet 2 blown boats together will get some attention!!

10% won't even make it cackle, not even a little, much less give you any sort of HP gain

Run the "mix" the idea is the "lead" ,I'm 9.5 to 1, 6lbs boost, 112 leaded ,91 unleaded ,2oz marvel mistery oil for 10 gals and boost retard too boot
(lead provides the necc octane to "slow down" the "burn" and reduce "volitility" as well as valve seat lube etc etc  Tom
