I run a strap over the pump. My Eliminator doesn't have those bow eye dealies on the back.

People laugh, but I run nothing but straps.  One from the bow eye forward, one from the bow eye back, and a couple for the transom.  Looks ghetto, but let's the boat flop around on the trailer without flexing with the trailer.  I've lost a few underwater, but never on the road.

in my early years of boating I was making a left hand turn and curb-shotted the center median and the jet boat jumped up about foot in the air....enough for me to see it in my rear view mirror. After that I installed bow eyelets on each side of the transom and strapped it to the trailer which already had tabs for straps.  ::) $20 bucks each but well worth it!
Why didn't they come that way from the start?

3000 lb Eliminator daycruiser doesn't have straps/transom hooks I dont think its gonna move...
the smaller boats need them
Tying over the pump is a bad idea...hard on the intake.

I live a mile or so from the launch, barely use the winch.

Did the strap thing over the pump. Got tired of doing it that way. So I put two bow eyes on the back and it works better.

What's your suggestion for tying the back down without the bow eye hooks?

I'm not a fan of it either.
I think as long as you only put enough tension on it to keep the boat from moving and not much more than that, you'll be fine.
Otherwise, buy yourself some bow eyes.

Daniel,

Hate to disagree with you, but I doubt seriously you could do any harm strapping the boat down via the bowl, obviously with a reasonable amount of tightness.

If the boat is propelled by the pump and steers the boat via the pump, I would have a hard time believing simply tying it down onto a well fitting trailer would cause any harm.

Could be wrong.
