Title: Outboards don't like Independence
Post by: hotrod56cars on July 04, 2007, 04:49:26 PM
I took the family today down to Mission Bay with the family boat. I slept like 5 hours last night.  :(  We got there around 8:30, I swear my G/F must have gotten the last parking spot, place was packed. Launched the boat, ran speratic for about 30 minutes, it died, and then we got a good "inside" look at what a natural water preserve looks like  :o  because the flockin thing died. We got towed out by a knat, errr jet ski. While being towed the flockin thing started up, so I unhooked from the jet ski and went about our day. It still ran rough at very low speeds, ran good at the mid to top end. Dropped off some kids and crap at "camp" and my G/F, my 8 yr. old son, her youngest son, and I went out into the bay again. It ran real strong and real well. I decided to show the kids how the "upper half" lives so we cruised into a ... damnit what's that word.... place where all the rich people dock there sh!t and putt putt putt around there for 10 minutes checking out all the bad asssssed big boats and then the flockin thing died. WTF? Tried to restart it, no start. Tried some more, more, more , more, more, BOOM!!!! Oh sh!t the flocking SOB Mo Fo POS GDFA is ON FLOCKIN FIRE!  :o   :o   :o  So I'm standing there, boat engine on fire, boat drifting towards (very close by now, couple of feet) some other boats that cost more than the house that I bought that I can't pay for and I'm standing there and I'm standing there and I'm standing there and... yeah, you're getting the idea - I was just standing there looking at the fire thinking "WTF?" with my jaw on my bellie button, and some guy sticks his head out of a floating mansion and says "put the fire out".  :o Oh sh!t, the flockin POS Mo FO routine again and so I reach down and start splashing the fuel fire with water, the water ain't doin' sh!t (duh), and I step back (jaw still on bellie button) and the guy says "do you have a fire extinguisher?". I said "yeah". He says "put the fire out". So I said something like OMFG the Mo FO POS is on fire, I grab the fire extinguisher and realize that I've never read the GD label, so I park my stupid asss on the stern and am sitting there on my boat while the engine is on fire reading the fire extinguisher's label (stupid asssed white trash Mo FOing POS), pull pin - I pull the pin. Step back 6 feet, WTF? I hear a guy yelling from what sounds like 4 football fields away "push the GD button!", so I pushed the button and poof! the fire goes out.

WTF was that Rod? You were a fire fighter in the Navy and you don't know how to put a fuel fire out? Stupid Mo Fo POS. I turn around and there's the two kids and my G/F just starin' at me. what can I do? -  ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D

So then the Rescue guys (actually it was one dude and a REALLY  H O T  blonde  ;D) pull up in there tug boat sayin' "need some help?" I said hell yeah, tow me the hell out of here before I get shot for being dumb.

$220 and an hour and a half later the outboard familt burned engine boat is sitting on the trailer.

No I didn't have any drugs or alcohol before or during the entire event. Now, I ain't doing Jack for the rest of my July 4th, I'm doing SoCo.   ;D

And you thought the outboard was good idea. Probably the second time , out I had a fire on my saguaro . I literaly kicked some bitch in the ass out of my boat . My wife dives under the bow lookin for the FE . An eternity later she comes up and says "I cant get it out !" So I kicked her in the ass for shits and giggles and proceeded to dive under the dash to retrieve the FE . Fires out and now I race both boat and motor . Sooooooooo what are you gonna do now .

As a side note , in retrospect I could have turned the key to suck the fire down into the motor but that would have been dramma free and then I wouldnt have anything to say here . The only reason I even had a fire was because I told my wife with to spray the carb with carb cleaner as I mashed the gas to get us away from some rocky cliff we were headed towards . I lived to boat another day ! Good stuff . You should have pulled the plug on the unfaithfull bitch and let her sink .

Really sorry to hear about you problems, but ya had me laffing out loud because of the way you tell it. And like OC2 says the bright side is that you can now buy another jet. That's a good thang. Now go check your other  fire extinguishers before you forget.

Allright, I took the covers off to look at the damage.

I found a busted ground wire.
[attachimg=#]

Next I found 2 wires badly burned.
[attachimg=#]

Those same 2 wires later up in the loom.
[attachimg=#]

Rusty and corroded connections, probably the intermittant start condition that recently developed.
[attachimg=#]

A lot of wiring harnesses with fire damage.  :'(
[attachimg=#]

The G/F wants to go to the beach today. I'm staying home to work on this thing.  ;)

Saltwater. It died in saltwater 22 days ago, never got flushed or washed. Looked like brand new when I got it a few months ago. Sheer neglect on my part.  :P

It's official, the key is long gone. I figured out how the control comes apart. The ignition looks expensive. It's totaly sealed so without a key I am not going to be able to figure out how it's wired, unless of course I just start putting wires together.   >:D

Got a key made, $60. Boat runs fine  ??? . I'll probably take it to the lake on Sunday (El Cap) for testing. I hopefully have a couple of friends meeting me there. A Eliminator jet and a flattie. I'm hoping to get a chance to drive the flattie.   ;D

ouch. I always liked outboards for their lack of maintenance demands... Sounds like you had your hands full...
