Hi Gang.
I have been reading posts for along time but have never really added my own. Well now I have a reason.I dont want anyone else to go through what I am. I have been dealing with a boat company that is in riverside (previously in corna). I am not sure if i can name drop on and open thread so I will keep this a bit vague. Well i purchased a boat that was incomplete and contracted to have it finished in a timely manor. Well after three boatless rivertrips and 3 months past contracted timeframe I still have no boat. The screwy thing is that there is only a a few days worth of work needed and some parts. now I am locked into a battle to get my money back. I have about 5000 owed to me. Not to mention the heartache from my wife and the runaround at the boat shop. So i got online and did so research........ All parties that claim to be the owner of the company have numerous civil suits againsts them from under thier previous business name, and a few new suits under the new name. SO... dont end up like me when doing business do alittle reasearch first. If I get a greenlight to name drop I will unload more details.......I am sure many of you will know this company and a few might even be doing business with them..well thats my service announcement. wish me luck in court.

Kinda sux dude. We're mostly DIY'ers where possible, but I can understand getting things professionally done. I have a couple ideas I'm going to toss in Tom's lap eventually for that very reason.
Good luck getting your boat or your money back. I think the mentality in a lot of cases is that since everyone else got bailed out in this economy, the legal system is gonna cut everyone in small business a break. I doubt that, but they may also be banking on the fact that with the money problems, who has money for a lawyer? When people can walk away from a mortgage only because they bought the same house a block away for half what they owed, AND the government covers it for the banks, the skies the limit on scams and theives.
Amazing how the worms crawl out of the woodwork when noone can afford anything. (I kinda feel like one of those worms at times, given my recent purchases and what I've paid for them.)

Ya I hear ya one worm thing,I got a fair deal on the or at least i thought. I cant even get the boat from this guy to finish it off myself.. Normally I have no problem doing the work myself but got spoiled with the idea of somebody getting me a turn key boat for the around the same price it would probly cost me to do it. Guess U live and learn...

I would elaborate more, and some on this site know the BS legal issue that was put on my plate by some greedy members of my late wifes family. I could settle it out, but to be honest, I am fighting it through and through. My thinking is I'd rather spend $50,000 putting those bitches in their place than give them $5. (Is that bull-headed?)
Just me, but that's how I was raised. What's right is right. And that's exactly what I'm doing.
Again, good luck with it! If you were a PPL member, you could probably get a little motivation under them.

Don't worry about stepping on toes around here, from the sound of it you've got every right to bitch in an open forum. Corona to Riverside huh? Didn't Ultra make that move?

Having been in the buisness of selling and repairing boats for several years, I will tell you that piss poor service is something that hurts good and great shops out there as well..
Let me explain, there were quite a few times I would get a boat in the shop that another shop already put the screws to, either by incomplete or shoddy workmanship, or just charging way too much and taking way too long...These people seem to think they need to get some payback and tried to screw me over, I guess as restitiution for geting screwed over by the unrelated A-holes...
I used to get about 30% of my customers from some of the fly-by-nighters in the area and the common denominator was always a promise made along with money up front....
Let me tell how this works.
Pay with a credit card and never more than 30% as a down, if the service agreement (in writing) is not met to the satisfaction of either party, you dispute the charges, they will take the money straight out of their account, this is why the interest rates are so damn high.
You can also set up an escrow account on really large jobs, I have done this in the past and it works OK, costs about $100 and the vehicle becomes colladeral with a reversible lien on it, the lien is released when everybody (both sides) is happy (or at least satisfied)...

Glen's got a valid point. He's prolly seen more than his share of this and customers expecting him to absorb what the other guys screwed them out of. Not gonna happen.
That ain't fair to expect that either. He deserves to be paid for what he's gonna do, and fix, retro fix, etc, and be paid a fair price for doing it.
The problem is the original shop, and your focus needs to remain there. Glen or glen's shop is not the issue here.
I agree, and I think Glenn does too, that 3 months is a far too long time to get a boat done, no matter what's wrong with it. That's beyond whatever the original contracted time frame was. I did the Moo in about 5 weeks. Brad built his race boat, in far worse shape than mine was, in 6, and his Southwind in less than 2. 2Sav has built boats in less time (When there's not a floor involved ;D), and I can post link after link of SELF built boats built in 3 months or less from this site alone. I've seen where Crewcheif build engines, and then rebuild them, in less than 2 weeks at home.
We are all doing this while maintaining full time jobs. What's their problem? So YEAH, name drop, and drop actual names of your contacts. That will help all!

Alright. What has really pissed me of is throughout this whole ordeal is all lies and back peddling. The job was not that tough just to have the dam motor installed and some of the kinks worked out of the steering. Cake job u would think.
The company used to be team Hawaiian and is now know as power boats Inc. I have spent many hours in the shop and did business with Wayne king before. It seems like his shady business partner Colleen Cain has had a huge influence on the way he does business.
According to the riverside county courts there is a pretty solid history of the same kind of issue I am having. Looks like others have had to go to the courts too. And I am sure this is not the only shop to steer clear of. But it's the only one I know of so if u are looking for a boat shop in the riverside area stay away from this one unless u are looking for frustration and lies.
Wish I would of thought of the credit card that would have been very helpful. I will keep that in mind if I ever decide to buy a boat from a shop or need something I can't handle myself. Thanks for all the replies I will keep u posted.

Your next step should be the Riverside County Court, IMO. I'm in AZ, so Cali is a totally different realm than I'm used to, but here, civil suit filing fee's are like $35 depending on county, and generally that alone, once the defendant(s) are served, solves the issue. No lawyers involved. (Well, theirs maybe).
Cali I don't know. The "Screwinator" has no doubt even influxed the debacle you call an economy by making sure that the "Golden" State's highest percentage percapita (of ANYWHERE) lawyers get theirs. Again, just my observation.
Another solution might be, kinda bold but, I know here a couple TV stations get OFF on going after businesses like this with an investigative reporter and chit (they keep a running total on what they reclaim for people, even put a few people in prison and more than that out of business). Might be worth a couple phone calls, and the publicity, or threat therof, might garner results.
Gawd I'm glad I'm such nice guy! I feel like I'm pennies from heaven for this kinda thing, but just deal with it on my own when it happens to me, lol. No wonder I may have an Ulcer!

ResQ sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations , too bad you weren't able to see the "buzzards circling" prior to dropping off the boat .With that many legal actions pending ,as a consumer I'd be a little spooked ! The best way to do these things in todays world is with a contract and communication via email (for documentation) The repair facility/shop should regularly give you evidence of progress and status. I'd demand my boat and trailer and parts (if involved and cut my losses Then you'll likely have to "get in line" to recoup your losses . Let me Know if I can help Tom

Well gang I finally got my boat back, Minus my carb. Looks like I am gonna have to follow thru with the lawsuit to get my money back. And I am gonna need for the rebuild on my motor. Atleast the boat is in my garage an expensive lessen I guess. So for anyone that might want to do business in riverside beware of powerboat Inc, and thier other company muscle car connections. I talked to another guy who has had problems with them he I a police officer and he is pushing for criminal charges on the owner aswell as a group lawsuit with others. So I am happily of to the repair area to pick your guys brains for info that might get me back out on the water.
