Kickin around the idea of lowering my truck. 2011 Silverado Z71 2wd. I got an 02 Silverado bone stock and a lifted Powerstroke, I've never owned a lowered vehicle.
Anyone have a new body style Chevy lowered? Any opinions?
I wouldn't go any bigger than 20" wheels, might even use stock 18" Idk...

I put a 4-6 drop on mine w/ 275-45-20's...love it! I'll post a pic or two later.

how much were you thinking of lowering it? i built a slammed dually without bags and ended up selling it because it was a hassel to get in and out of driveways and such. if your not going to drop it that much then don't worry about it but if you want it on the ground, you better bag it.

Haven't seen many like mine lowered, don't know what a 4/6 looks like on a NBS. I want low, but I don't wanna scrape every mcdonalds drive thru.

They look clean at that height but with 20's it just seems like you need a bit more to fill in the wheel well. JMO

A 265-35-22 is smaller than my tires. I wouldnt go much lower than a 45 series tire cuz it starts to get rough ridin

If you ate going to slam the 2011 it is a lot more complex than the 2010 and older. Reason being is Chevy changed the front end over to a McPherson strut rather than could spring and shock like previous years. It is doable but take a little more time. A guy out in my neck ofthewoods cut all his new suspension off and ordered 2010 front end from Chevy and grafted it on just do he could bag itandlay frame.

Mine sits high to begin with.. I think cause of the Z71 bs.
I guess I just need to find pictures of comparable trucks lowered.
I'm sure this will de-value the truck instantly, but will a notch cause any frame rigidity issues? I suppose I can weld some plates on the rails so it doesn't get flimsy.
It would be a mild static drop and probably air bags in the rear depending on how it tows.. although the only thing it pulls is the boat and I believe tongue weight is minimal. I have the diesel for towing big and the work Chevy to haul junk.

if its done right there should be no problem towing with one. i have built a few, and if you box them in and plate the frame it will be stronger than the rest of the frame. i would suggest NOT using a ''bolt on'' notch at all tho

I build cars for a living been doing it for 8 years professionally now and as long as I can remember as a hobby. Yes to the average buyer any modification devalues, but to the person in the market for a lowered/lifted/modified vehicle, it does not as bad as one would think. I also agree with not using a bolt on notch kit (just don't like them) but I do use them as a weld on. Simply use the bolt holes as plug weld holes.( again just preference) but be careful welding your notch kit fully. If not done properly you will actually weaken your frame.

If it was for sale I would use, complete BellTech 4/6 drop Profesionaly installed as a selling feature. The belltech bolt in C-nothes are pretty stout, completly boxes the frame. I run helper bags in the back, I put in 20-40 lbs and it seams to unload the spring just a little and actualy rides better than stock.

Djm makes a nice kit for all trucks. 3-5 and I pull a 30ft enclosed trailer weighing in around 20k loaded.

I agree my comment was more a response to Kayotik's response. Bottom line is either way you will be able sell your truck if you want to. Also I like the bellteck kits also I just prefer welding frame notches I don't care how much lock tite or how torqued your hardware is shit comes loose when you use it. Besides I am a fabricator so I love me some welding. I am actually saving up right now to drop my silverado, and i don't care how much it "hurts" the value >:D

When i was at the rod shop we would just fab the notches. I got the complete kit, springs, sindles shocks, shock rlocaters, driveline kit, flip kit AND C-nothes brand new in the box off ebay for $260

Yeah we normally do also, but when the cost for off the shelf ones out weigh the cost to build them from scratch or if the cstomer requests them then we order them

Well, been thinkin on it.. not planning on cutting my frame until the truck gets a bit older.
My old lady's brother-in-law bought a Tahoe for his wife last year that someone had put a set of Centerline Tomcats on. 20"x8.5 with 7k miles on the 285 tires. He's grown tired of polishing them once a month.
The wheels retail for around $310 ea plus tax and shipping and I think the tires are just a Winston street tread tire. I don't really wanna give up my stock Z71 alloys and bridgestones with 4k, but he will trade me straight across. Good deal? Or should a guy buy his own aftermarket? Not a scratch or a bit of rash on them, even though its a wife's daily driver.. They are in need of a good take off and polish. I'm no stranger to polishing aluminum wheels and my two clean trucks are either indoors or covered with wheel covers and a circus tent.
I think the truck would sit ok leveled out with a 2/4, these wheels and some bags to keep rear from sagging when loaded and towing.

I have pretty much the same truck, not a crew cab and it's a GMC but you get the idea. I would like to put a 2-4 drop on it one day but for now I went with some 2" drop shackles in the back. It came with the stock 20's also, so I think it's filling out the wheel wells pretty well now, plus the drop shackels are a lot cheaper and much easier to put on.
Here is a picture of my truck for referance, keep in mind that in this picture it does look like it's sagging in the back a bit but that is just because of the angle and the crappy launch ramp i'm sitting on but I think you'll get the idea.
Also, if you do end up buying a lowering kit, I highly suggest McGaughy's, they make the best products for GM's they have even been awarded by GM several times for the design quality. Here's a link to their site. http://www.mcgaughys.com (http://www.mcgaughys.com)

I put a 3/4 on mine first day I got it and I've been lovin it since 04'. Just make sure to use quality parts made for your truck. Geometry is everything cheapies are never right...

I have a 2011 Chevy Quad Cab with a 4/6 McGaughys lowering kit on it witth 22's. I had to add bags to the back to keep it off the frame. But It still rides like its stock.

Yes, that Dmax is the animal! I've been around a lot of small diesel, lb for lb they kick arse!
Wiring nightmare though for a conversion.
12 valve Cummins is crude and simple. 12 volts to start and turn off and run your stereo. Dmax would never get the mileage... I love a loud, obnoxious ass diesel that you can't sneak up on folk with.
Ain't saying can't be done, that would be a badass project. Tons of power and a six speed in a badass low slung dually.

This is the only other pic I could find and of course it's sitting on a weird angle. It looks a little lower when sitting level especially the back but not much. Hope this helps
