Ladies and gents, this non mechanically inclined, no construction skilled, but willing to take the time and learn boater is looking to jump balls deep into a project boat. I currently have a cruiser, and well.... looking to go faster (who wouldn't)! In a perfect world I'd like to pick up a hull that's complete minus motor and pump, but looking around there's no way that's in the budget right now. Anyhow back on track. I really like the look of bubble decks. I'm not vary familiar with many of the classic hulls other than Hallett, Howard, Southwind, Challenger, Kona, Tahiti. My question to everyone is when looking at older hulls (mid 70-80's), what should I be looking for? I'd like to get something in the 18-19' range, semi v, tunnel would be awesome, but that thing called cash gets in the way. Ive also been in contact with Paul at High flow dynamics, and he came up with a nice combo around 500hp. I didn't want anything bigger. I'm not a die hard chevy or ford fan, just want something easily maintained, reliable.
Originally I was going to swap out the 454 in my current boat for the 460 realizing I was going to have to swap everything out. So why not put all those parts into a project I thought. This is my current float that I'm keeping as my cruiser, and if the project doesn't work out. I'll have a bad ass 460 to throw in!

From what I have learned is as long as its a solid hull and you're not looking to go above 75, pretty much every hull can be pretty easily made to work. With minor bolt of adjustments, but every single boat is different. Even if its the same manufacture and year they all react to things differently.

How fast are you looking to go?
Make sure you got a good padding on your budget. The little things (hardware) add up pretty quick.
A lot of Southwinds and Hallets came with Fords. If you can get a boat with the Ford stuff, that will help a lot.
A full stringer hull is a better choice for higher performance.

Thanks for the compliment and info! Not too sure how fast, just faster than what I'm now. So getting past 48 shouldn't be too hard to do lol! If I had to guess though 60ish would be nice!

What all do you have to do to get it ready for the water? Are you gonna paint it?
I think Jrork did a big thread on the Sanger he and his son put together. They did alot of research on the boat, might be useful.

Thanks guys. Dave I'll look the thread up. To get it in the water I don't think would take too much. Rebuild pump, eng, trailer work. But to get er purdy replace floor, glass work, paint, cap. Basically the works.
The guy had it stored outside with his two big a$$ pits!. Gonna take better pics and start a thread!
