Title: Proud of my son (Cow Elk hunt)
Post by: 75 fantasy on November 07, 2011, 12:57:05 PM
my son shot his first Tule elk on the weekend of his 16th birthday! he and the guide did a 2 hour stalk behind a herd of 80, while a satellite group of bulls were watching over the herd. the herd would graze and bed and then graze and bed through a valley moving away from my son. i was watching from the top of a foothill about 800 yards across just above the satellite bulls. it was awesome to watch him crawl and get within 130 yards without any trees for cover to take a shot. it's not a monster cow but it is one of those hunts we will never forget. my late father in-law setup and paid for this hunt last year. i know he that we was with my son and whispered to him to "kill it" like on previous hunts and before he could say "it" the bullet was down range!
