hey guys quick question.
The rims on my trailer are in crappy shape. Up until tonight i didnt think they had any chrome left on them, but upon closer inspection, i discovered the theres this hard dull film on them that can be removed if you scrape it with your fingernail. It kinda looks like calcium buildup. I tried using number 0 steel wool on them and it worked it just took a TON of elbow grease to clean one small area. Has anyone ever seen this or know how I can get them clean again without wearing my fingers down to the bone, lol i tried rim cleaner, steel wool, CLR, rubbing compound etc. The section that i steel wooled is some of the shiniest chrome I have ever seen but id like the rest of the rim to match lol.

Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish...works like a charm. I bought my boat last summer and the rims and headers looked TERRIBLE. I used this stuff and now my rims and headers look like new. I also got the Mothers Power Ball thing and I'll use the polish with that and it does wonders.

I used to do this to old diner tables and chairs where you didn't want to screw up the chrome but wanted it clean. Take some Windex and some Aluminum foil. Fold the foil into a square, spray the windex on and use your manly powers to scrub the scum away. You'll be surprised how good it works.

Sounds logical. Aluminum softer than steel wool, should leave fewer scratchs. I'll have to try this one on my wheels.

I'm tellin' you Sam, I never would have thought of trying it, an old timer up in Topanga Canyon turned me on to that trick, works freaking great!

I think you have some vinyl coated wheels there and the coating failed...Seen it before, hit it with a heat gun or a turbo torch and see if it peels off, then you might try some Eagle wire wheel cleaner, the two part chit....It's basically an acid and a neutralizer...Stuff's cool.
