Title: RIP Earl Smith

Just read about Earl Smith passing away at 84 years old. Met him a few years back at WF and besides being a pretty sharp cookie... he was cool as hell to talk to. He's one of those guys that put such a huge mark on the jet boat world that he'll be remembered years after he's gone. He's the guy behind the 18' gullwing, 18' comp tunnel, and 16' tunnel... and help popularize the tx-19 back in the day when Youngblood was the only gullwing out there... and the other hulls, most of which people refer to as CP (fill in the blank) came directly from him... the O.G.

Sad day!
Hopefully a memorial can get set up for all to pay respect .

Wow RIP EARL SMITH, lucky enough to be sporting one of his early 18 gullwings. Really wish I could of started getting in the drag boat scene a lot earlier and met some of the O.G. Pioneers

My dad knew Earl in the early 80's, had the pleasure of going to his shop in El Paso and running two of his 16's when they first came out, from what I'm told Earl was one cool guy and a great innovator, my 1978 gullwing that he built is all original and still holding up strong, RIP
