Boat is running hot with very little water coming out the pee hole at idle. I back flushed the engine and got out a lot of sand but still running hot (190 or higher at idle). Engine is not running lean and must have blockage. Before i pull everything apart are there any "usual culprits" that cause blockage? I'm assuming that the water line to the jet is just an opening in the bowl (i blew into the line and it is clear). Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue. But I think mine is an old gauge not reading right

Block likely full of sand

Might want to remove a freeze plug to remediate the sand as well. I used a cheapo McMaster strainer. See pic.

Pull the two drain plugs on block. One on each side. Get a straw an shove it in/out of the drain while turning water on/off. It will take some time to get sand/debris out. Once water is flowing it will pass right over the sand, so shut it off when you dont see sand. Soon as you shut the water off, it will drain sand with the last bit of water flow. It might take 30+ minutes per side. I do this to my block at the end of every season an get about a cup of sand/debris each time from each side. I dont beach my boat nor run in shallows.

When i bought the longblock for my flatty it had originally came out of a jet boat, when i bought it they said it ran but it had started getting hot so they pulled it out thinking it needed to be gone thru, they were right it did ..BUT. when i tore it down i shit you not 40 pounds of beach sand came out of that motor. When i pulled the freeze plugs it looked liked it had been hard blocked. It was fun whackin it with a mallet and watching it all come out!!! Lol even got some tore up plastic bags out of it...

Yes. Never had an issue. Sorry I do not have a link. Boat since gone. I know it is somewhere here on SCJB.

Make sure it doesn't have a t-stat, had a few buddies that had this problem and they ended up having one and was causing the water to not flow as well. Taking out all the freeze plugs and draining is a good idea as well 👍🏻 good luck partner

Are you in the Southwest, boat on the Colorado river? I hope it's not quagga mussels.
