I teach at a small (500 students) high school. Even tho we have had three grads killed in the line of duty, it was hard to get kids to even remove their friggin hats for the national anthem and the pledge. Once the speechifying started tho they felt like real dirtbags. This is the one day where they will get called out from the stage.  I hope everyone takes the motivation from today and gets involved somehow to show the thumbsuckers in D.C. that the nation does support the troops and the mission.  Like my t-shirt says "I don't wish to be argumentative but I disagree with the Muslim idea that I should be killed."  Take the time to tell your representatives in Congress that terrorists love open borders.

Wow i am so wrapped up in trying to get rid of these boat and parts that i totally forgot what day it is. Maybe its time to sit back and drink a beer  and enjoy life as we know it. Because if it werent for our fallin brothers and sisters out there protecting us, who knows were we would be today?

I thank god everyday for them and pray for there familys they come back safe.

Funny you should mention people wearing their hats through the national anthem or even the pledge. That was one thing in high school that would set me off.

Since a fellow student (myself) getting upset with them didn't seem to change anything, here is an effective solution:
One of my teachers would make the students who refused to participate/show respect wait outside the classroom until we were done.

This is a small school, only about 500 kids all juniors and seniors. They are standing outside in an ampitheater. Even tho it is only the second week of school we know most of them by name. They don't like it much when they get dogged out from the stage. Even the most cool kid doesn't like it much when he is pointed out to be out of step with the other 499 and they are all standing in the hot sun waiting on him to straighten up. After some of our teachers relate their stories there are quite a few kids crying from the emotion of it all even tho it was six years ago now and they would have been on 10 to 12 years old.
