Took my Southwind out today to make sure everything was good for next weekend. Aside from losing a bearing buddy on one trailer wheel, ran great. Just put the motor back in. 455 Olds, new heads, cam, carb, headers and valve train. Motor was fresh but wanted more power. So, tore into it for no good reason. Very happy with the results.

I re-did all of the bearings, seals, and buddy bearings the day before. Re-did that one wheel when I got home. Thank you for the suggestion

That flake and gel looks AWESOME! Sounds good.
By the way, Did you happen to find any Chevy keys at the ramp right where you launched? I lost some about 20 years ago.

Thanks Dave! I was looking for a of keys set I lost too. Lol. That flake gel is original and damn near flawless. I’m the second owner. The boat was custom ordered in 75. Garaged it’s entire life. Parked in 93. Sat for 23 years. I bought it in 2016 and rebuilt the entire boat.

Looks like you scored. I noticed a breather/puke tank in the back of the motor. How do you have that set up?

I paid a fortune for the boat. The lady wouldn’t take a penny under $8500 Had to rebuild or replace everything. It was the exact gel coat/boat I had searched for my whole life. So it was worth it.
That oil catch can is mounted on the ski tow. I have a closed push-in breather on the valvecover. From the breather I ran a 5/8 hose to the catch can. So far, the catch can collected most of the condensation on top.

Well, it is hard to find flawless original flake. It really is a Beautiful boat. Those would have been the colors I would have picked as well.
Thanks for the explanation. I have an Olds that spews oil if I stay on it too long. One of these days I’m going to do something about it.

Yeah, I had the same problem. I opened up the oil returns in the heads, switched to tall and baffled valve covers, and added the catch can. That fixed the oil spraying out of the breathers. It was so friggin frustrating. If I had to do it all over again, I would tap the heads and run drain hoses directly to the pan.
