I'm new and ya it's a dumb question but how shallow can I go with my berk without sucking up sand and gravel?

Not typical,  but we have run an aluminum vee bottom upriver in less than 5" (probably less than that) of water at speed (estimating around 85mph).

When we walked that area of the course after the race, I crossed the river wearing 6" hiking boots and saw the clean rocks where we went (it washed the moss of the river bottom) and my socks never got wet.

It's safe to say in most cases 12". Keep in mind, a rudder reduces that in a huge way.

Thanks gt, I'm heading to a lake this weekend with shallow water for about 200 yards to the beach so I wanted to make sure I could idle all the way to the beach and not mess up my jet, water is just below my knees so I'm guessing 16+"

Remember though, GT said at speed...... if you aren't on plane, the boat will sit lower in the water, just keep that in mind.

You also want to be careful in shallow water because you can start sucking up sand and other stuff it will wear down your impeller as well as fill you block !!!

Turn your idle down as low as you can.

Honestly, if it's only 16" or so, I would walk it in.

What's the bottom consisting of?  Sand? Rocks? Weeds?

Makes a huge difference IMO.

Sand and mud, it's about 2" of clay/mud then sand

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  We recommend hip deep water.  One grain of sand between the impeller and wear ring can stall the engine or spin the wear ring out.  That gravel sound could mean $1800+

Ya I'll walk it in, just got the thing running again after $1,200 in upgrades, don't need it back under the knife after one weekend.
