We made it to Shasta Lake again this year.
Killer weather, water was down 165' from the spillway, still a lot of water, hope we get more soon...

I wouldn't hold my breath. It will take several above normal years to get her even close...
From what I have read, it will take up to five years of 125% or above annual rainfall to get it to the spillway.
It is so awesome when it is full though. I have been there when you literally tied to the tree line and had to put ant spray on paper towels on the tie lines to keep from being invaded.
I will have to scare up some pictures.

Whats the camping like there. We are thinking about having a family get together there next year. We all have 5th wheels or motorhomes.

The best way to go is a house boat! There is a web site you can rent from! It really the only way to go! It's awesome!!!

With the water levels as low as they are, the camping situation is pretty bleak. Most of the camping areas are quite a ways from the water, even when the lake is full. There are several places that have great camping, I really enjoy Antlers Resort in Lakehead http://www.antlersrvpark.com/ (http://www.antlersrvpark.com/) , but right now, they literally have no water.
I have stayed at Holiday Harbors campground http://www.lakeshasta.com/silo_campground.html (http://www.lakeshasta.com/silo_campground.html) in a motor home when my kids were small, pretty small campground, which was good for us because we could keep an eye on them.
In all honesty, the best way to visit Lake Shasta is a houseboat. The lake is so vast (over 365 miles of shoreline with a full lake) that you can cruise around for a week and still not see it all.
The roads are challenging for larger rigs. Not impossible, just challenging.

Thanks for the info GT. The house boat is out of the question. Too large a group and not enough money. Use to do the house boat on powell every year but now we just camp on the shore. With a trip to Havasu in the spring, a trip to powell and two trips to san diego every year we try to keep costs down as much as possible. thanks everyone, Tim

C'mon...
Houseboat for 4 nights=$1000, food was about $600 for 10 and spent less than $300 on gas for all three boats....
You crazy.
Imho you do not need to rent the top of the line boats.
Hit me with a pm and I will hook you up.
Btw, we rented a 15x56 boat with a small penthouse. Slept 12 peeps without much drama.
We normally sleep on the roof anyway.
