Title: Small accomplishments...
Post by: GT Jets on August 14, 2012, 11:33:58 PM
I know for many of you this is like nothing....

But I just wanted to show that I am working on projects too.... ;D

I bought my daughter a 1993 Toyota 4Runner 4X4 with a hurt 3VZE V6.

Paid virtually nothing for it (under $1000) and they had recently done an assload of work to it; battery, water pump, radiator, stereo with 8 new speakers, brakes front and rear, timing belt with new idler and tensioner, fan clutch, converted the R12 AC to 134A, cat converter and muffler, just to name a few, well they ran it low on oil and hurt the crank...

So I figured I would put a 3.4L in it....Looking into it I thought it was a bit more ambitious than I wanted to get, so what does this dumbass do? rebuilds the 3.0... :screwy:

Anyways, I drove it around the block today.

New crank, new pistons, oil pump, a couple new rods, had the heads done yada yada yada...

Damn these things gotta lot of parts.... :o

Anyways, I know it's not a boat, but is has a class III hitch and a transmission cooler and and oil cooler, besides it is a 4X4... ;)

This thing is way nicer than my first car,  power windows, locks, moon roof, power mirrors, tinted windows, air, cruise, tilt, rear wiper, automatic with OD....

My daughter will find out when she gets home from camp on Friday...She so deserves this...I'm stoked. 8)

congrats on all your hard work.  im sure it'll pay off and she'll be super happy.  everyone remembers their first car.  plus the fact that you went thru almost everything you know that its all in good working order and she's safe.  better than buying something and she gets stranded somewhere.

Good job.  If you ever decide to do the 3.4 swap, lemme know.  I've done a few.

Thanks brother...

I can tell you the main reason I didn't do it was that most of the donor trucks out there already had a million miles on them and most were 5 speeds...

Also was not turned on too much that they required a body lift or a hood scoop to clear the plenum.

Not to mention the machinist that did the work owed me huge....

I've got $800 in parts and labor doing all the machine work and setting up the valve lash with new everything, I assembled everything myself (I'm weird that way) so I think I did alright.

Anybody out there know how much ATF I need to change the automatic transmission fluid? I'm thinking like 8 quarts... :-\ Gotta pull the pan because of a drip.... ;)

4 quarts if you pull the pan.  Go to the dealer and pay the money for a tube of red FIPG....and use it to glue the pan back on.  It's the best shitnon the planet and won't leak for another 300k miles
