One thing, Mom has a couple large ponds back east (probably 25-35 feet deep about an acre each)  and the damn things used to grow weeds like CRAZY and FAST making boating/fishing, even canoeing, well, impossible!

White Amur's are your friend there! (commonly known as Grass Carp) You can get them sterile or not. Sterile, you'll hafta replace them every year, maybe two if lucky. If not, you'll probably hafta work out a means to speed and replenish weed and grass growth. Otherwise, the same as the Sterile ones.  ;)

Ray

PS. I should add, we never had to replace them once Pops put them in. He had all sorts of peeps "live welling" bass, perch, bluegill, etc in so the pond was pretty self sustaining and no weeds. Made for good fishing too with kids, and grownups alike! Dad only let them keep Bass over 24" and very large Crappie and Bluegill, but on an honor system.

Ya and thats what i want is to have bass and catfish and pan fish in it im gonna try to keep shad alive in it and re populating to feed the other fish i made it close enough to my back porch so i could drink beer and fish from there im basing the layout and cover/depth changes around bass and ill have shallow areas for the bait fish i figured catfish will live in just about anything my buddies grandfather brought some to the city of orange from havasu palms in wet towels and they made the whole trip but died after he released them cuz they kept swimming up on shore

Water slowly 'percolates' or filters into the ground back to water table level eventually emptying the pond unless you : 1. Have inflow from natural source. ( rain- creek, spring etc) or introduced by hose.
2. Liner, to hold the water in.

The perc' rate is dependent on the type of soil.... Lots of clay.  Slow perc rate.  Sandy.... Fast.

Oh i see ya the rain already puddles where i put it pretty good and theres a drainage ditch next to it i plan on putting a pump into while its raining to help keep it up other than that the fire hydrant and hose will be used the ground is so hard where im at tho it takes a while to seep it had about 6 inches from the last rain in it and its still puddled in the bottom
