Ok this is a true story that happened to me on the CT. River on July 4th. I will start off my saying that I am not a fisherman and do not like to fish cause when I was younger my old man used to take me fishing on his boat and troll for hours. I just wanted mash the throttles and go fast. Hence I guess that is why my boat is the way it is.
So yesterday while at Gildersleve Island, my buddy and I decided to take a cruise with our boats and kick up some rooster tails. So we starting moving south where Gildersleve was on your right side. The channel there is not really that wide. We were going maybe 15mph cause we were going to turn around and come back up the river past all the boaters with roosters up. My buddy was ahead of me and turned around and headed up. I waited till he was about 1/4 ahead of me so I then made the turn and was about trolling speed and all of a sudden I feel this stabbing pain in my left hand. I look down and wow a fishing lure, I was able to get it free but as soon as I did the asshole from shore who casted it, yanked on it and it went into my right thumb (next to my thumbnail and out the other side of my thumb). I shut the boat off and was yelling at this dope to let the line out as he has my finger and is pulling on it. I was screaming at him that I am going to kick his ass when I get to him. Many people say to me, why do you carry a tool box on your small boat. Well good thing I had it as I was able to cut this jerks line with my side cutters. The crazy thing is that this dope casted when I was going by and the line came between me and my wife. Good thing it did not get her or an eye cause I would be in jail right now.
So now I have this lure dangling in my thumb. Great what to do now.
Well there were people across from this looser fisherman who saw what happened and waved us over to shore where they were. I gave some dude my side cutters and had him cut the lure off. Now I have this hook in my thumb still and this ass hole fisherman is now yelling at me across the channel that he has been there for three hours. I just shook my head. So now my buddy with the other Jet boat (Jet Boat Bill) comes back. I told him what happened and gave him my side cutters and told him the hook needs to come out forward and not the way it went in because of the barb. So I put my hand on a stable surface and Jet boat Bill was able to feed the hook through my thumb and out. I had the people poor vodka on it and wrapped it up with gauze and antiseptic. We then left and gave the finger to the fisherman. We were then tooling at a good clip up the river toward the corn field and bang DEP is right in front of us. We slow down and he floats up to us and says "30 MPH on weekends guys". Then I let him have it. I said let me tell you something. I don't care about what you are telling me about speed. I just pulled a lure out of my thumb from some asshole fisherman who is pissed at boats going by and maliciously casting out on boats going by. I showed him the lure and the hook as well as my thumb. He said he will go and check it out. Ya right, like he really did something.
So fast forward to the end of the day. Loading the boat on the trailer I never drive it on. Jet boat Bill drove my boat on the trailer and it was so dusty I reached for the bug catcher cover right away. I reached over to put the cover on and my forearm hits the headers and burns the hell out of it.
Go to the walk in this morning and telling the story about my thumb and arm, they could not believe it. Got a tetnus shot and burn scrapped and treated. I have to go back tomorrow for more scrapping.
All in all it was a fun weekend. You can't make this stuff up.
