Can someone school me a little bit on spectras. I'm looking at an 18 for sale and want to know how they ride. Are they well built boats. How do they handle decent power. What should I look for if I go and check it out. It seems pretty clean. All original for 3500 with a 455. Not bad I think. Any info on them would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have a 19 ft spectra and love the way it rides, with a pretty much stock BBC 427 it runs about 60 mph. It is a heavier boat but in my opinion there built great and hold up well

Is the 18 and 19 pretty similar or the bottoms pretty different?

I'm not too sure about that, but everyone I run into with the 18 says they ride like a Cadillac

Ok. That's good to know. What about speed. I know if I do get this boat I plan on building a healthy 454 for it. Do they have any handling issues at higher speeds?

i imagine it will handle it just fine. Mine is running at 10.1 which I know is much but it could handle more than that without a problem

The 18s are built more like the 20s i believe but the 19 bottom is a bit different i think. I had river daves old 20 with a small block and i/o and could get 60mph out of it. Always wanted a 18 but got a 20 and buddies got a 19 both run awesome. If you do get it and it has fiberglass tanks ditch those and go diff route other than that highly recommend spectras!!

I ended up buying a 19 from Johnny branch about a month ago. Been doing little things here and there so far. Stoked though and can't wait to get it running.
