The EMDs last forever. The GEs have been very poor reliability wise.

Max out at 900 RPM.  Over 4000 HP.

If it's 4000hp I have to imagine the tourqe is gotta be around 6500 ft lb , those things are impressive

Tell u the truth Im not sure of the Tq number.  I know these EMD cyliners are larger than the GE ones so in turn the GE turns higher RPM.

If a diesel is turning higher rpms it won't Last

The horsepower varys greatly depending on the model. A common GE is an ES44DC which is at 4,400hp. A big jack AC unit like an SD90MAC is at 6,000hp. An older GP series can be as low as 1,500hp for a GP7.

If 4,000 HP and 900 RPM

Then:

TQ = (HP * 5252) / RPM

TQ = (4000 * 5252) / 900

TQ = 21,008,000 / 900

TQ = 23,342lb/ft

I am amazed at how effortlessly and smoothly trains are able to accelerate.

The rolling resistance is actually quite low. Then once you figure in momentum they don't like to stop. And the beauty of the diesel electric locomotives is the instant and continuos torque.
