how can we fix that? i think at the next event SCJB.com staff should bring some shirts and stcikers and all that good stuff and sell it off. just my .02. that or people should donate. in my opinion.

The ads I've seen so far have not been a problem.  I hate the ones that expand in front of what you're trying to read  even when you don't roll across them  :banghead:

I think I saw one for a dating site called Plenty of Fishes or something like that.  It is supposed to be a "Christian" dating site I believe, but damn my buddy pulls all kinds of tail from it and he's ain't much to look at.

I think Brad should sell some space at the top like PB does.
It's there.
It's obvious.
Yet not overwhelming.

Does it help as in $$ if we click on the ads?

i cannot comment on that. they do check the site and their policy is that i cannot promote clicking of the links.

That, my brothers, is the greatest Politician's Answer you will ever hear, other than "Senator, I do not recall".

Oh, and YES IT DOES!  (I said it Brad, you didn't, for the record)

in all honesty, please dont click the links in the banners unless you honestly intend to. im trying to see what kind of clickthrough rate i get with them, rather then stacking up money.

thank you.

 ;)   ;)   ;)

How many people actually click on the ads anyway?  I do appreciate the way this site is designed, all low key like.  Whatever it takes though to keep the space available I'm sure none of us would mind seeing some entertaining/convenient links available.

Then, and just a suggestion, lol,  I would have Omar selling the space from the sites he hits, in that case. Might not be "family oriented" or any where close to even related to what we do, but would pay the bills ;D

Ummm...  The font in the "Google search bar" doesn't show up.  But after typing what I was looking up it found it anyways.  Guess the font must be in white??   ???

What's it gonna take to get Temple Bar Marina to buy some space? Terry, Josh, Keith, Skip ( Who Skipped out on us anyway)? Do we need to make some calls? Hell we all spent more money at the bar than they've probably ever seen!

I like it  Brad. It shows progress, and makes perfect sense to me. Commercialization scares people, but is a neccesity (sp) in this era. Sorry if I opened a can of worms on you, didn't mean  to.

Main thing gang is B-Rad is doing all he can to keep the site alive. That's what matters. He's getting married, and now money's gonna be the primary issue between paying the website bills and the wife's new shoes. You guys know, who wins.

I can relate very personal info, yet again, about how this site helped me through an ongoing difficult time. I've donated parts, time, and money ( when I among all of us, have none) to various people on this website, and many others have reciprocated that back and then some ( with interest). And I thank you all.

I've done so because I truly respect, and admire, everyone I've been in contact with on this site.

Nows the time to ensure it's future, (the site),  and Brad is doing what he has to to make it happen without begging for donations.

Just my observation.

there has been several donations made in the past. it has helped greatly, along with the shirt/sticker sales.... but the fact is im still in the hole.

im not lookin to plaster this site with ads and 'get rich quick'....but i need to keep the lights on and also expand the hosting as the site grows. we are only at about 80% capacity...it took us 2.5 years to get to this point....i figure we got another 6 months left until we are maxed out. maybe less as the summer is the much more busy time on this site with everyone posting pictures n such.

dont worry, i will, and always have, make ends meet to keep the lights on around here. this place is priceless to me.....and on the flip side of it all...dont worry, i wont sell/whore it out either. I am just looking at some options and doing some leg work for bigger/better things. As stated before, the ads are temperary and only to see what kind of click through rates i get on this site.

Most of the ads I've seen so far have been for performance shops and other "related" materials.

Again, no problem here.

It's all good Brad, do what you gotta do, this is a great thing you've built here. A great collection of data for all kinds of boaters! I have no objections to the banner adds.

x2  this site is priceless to most of us, i have met some great people, made some friends, gotten great advice and basically built a second family here.  Thank you for that Brad.

X10   These guys have voiced my feeling exactly.  It is kind of a family here and the advice and even labor available here is incredible.  Thank you for sharing your dream with us.  The ads are no problem at all if we don't have to chase them all over the page.  Looking forward to even a better SCJB.com  :)

Something I have wondered about - if somebody has pics in their post and then I click on the "quote" button to reply, I know that it shows the original pics again in my reply. Does this increase the size of the file (or whatever) because now there are 2X the amount of pics, or are there really only 1 set of pictures and it just appears to be a copy because of computer magic?

I guess what I'm really asking is what eats up capacity on the site - words or pictures? Or is this like impeller cuts and HP curves?? :sly:

no, theres only 1 picture hosted....everything else is linked to that one picture.

most of the space taken up is pictures...probably 75% of it.

this is a reason why i figured out online hosting...not only is it easier but it doesnt take up space! some of you guys that have a hard time with posting pics should look into photobucket or other places like photobucket...very simple...oc2vegas schooled me on some stuff too...he busted out crayons and drew me pictures to explain alot of this and have sense then somewhat figured this computer chingadera crap out

I'm glad to see some of these ads coming along.  I myself find some of them useful.  It seems that whatever I'm looking at, there's something related to it to click on in the top of the thread.  Pretty handy!

Hopefully it's helping out with keeping the costs in the black as opposed to the red.

Keep up the good work Brad.

PS - Never heard anything back from you about that vinyl.  I could make a "donation" on top of the sticker costs to help out the site.   ???
