Title: This really sucks
Post by: GlassCutter on November 16, 2008, 11:13:38 AM
DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANNA RUIN YOUR DAY ! ! !

I don't know why I am putting this out but there is no one around to talk to and I don't really feel like talking anyhow.

Friday morning as soon as I got to work I get a call from my bro-in-law telling me my niece "didn't make it".  WTF???
Say again         Has there been a car accident?   What?????????
He tells me that she went to bed fine and "just didn't wake up"
SHE IS NOT EVEN 18 FUCKIN YEARS OLD YET !   THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO KIDS

My niece is not just any kid-- she is the perfect child.  She was nearly a straight A student at a private high school.  She took herself out of public school because she didn't like all the things she saw in public school. The slutty girls, profane language, back stabbing bitches, no respect for adults kinda things that kids have to deal with every day.   She was an artist and a dancer even tho she was in constant pain with several foot surgeries.  She never complained about anything and was always smiling.   She was so into her religion that much of the rest of the family thought "this girl ain't right in the head".   She was at church 4 days a week and retreats and camps several times a month.  She had gone back to NY last year to see the Pope and raised the money to do it herself.   Just last month my sister and Ashley had taken a week and gone back east to tour prospective colleges.   She wanted to study religion so that she could teach it to others.  I am sure that a lot of you guys are not the religious types, but it brought her indescribable joy.
You guys that live out in the Ontario Rancho Cucamonga area I am sure will see something in your local papers, cuz this girl touched the lives of a lot of people.  If you live near St. Peter and Paul church in Rancho you are gonna see a crowd tonight like never before.

Please hug up your kids today and tell em that you love em cuz sometimes things change in the blink of an eye.
Please please please let them know that you love them and are glad that they are here.

Thanks for listening, I gotta go cry some more now.    Peace         RIP  Ashely Michelle Scanlon-Smith

My sincerest condolences from my family to yours. That is absolutely horrible; a parent should never have to bury their child!

GC,

I just told both of my kids that I love them and they are my heroes after reading this, they are both in advanced classes and getting straight A's in school, one's in High School Marching band while dealing with type 1 diabetes, the other is involved in middle school drama, while dealing with some other issues...when I was there age, it was a different world all together. You are right about not being very religious but I know many people who are that get a lot of enjoyment out of it, maybe a higher power had bigger plans for your niece, one can only speculate.....

Our thoughts are with you and your family today, very sorry for your loss.

I teach High School and work specifically with kids who "don't fit in" to a traditional program.  Being a kid today is sooo tough, they have to deal with some crazy sh!t that usually is not their doing.

Thank you to all who have expressed concern.  I just got back from my mass with my sister and hundreds of her closest friends.   She said 10 hours after they found Ashley on Friday there was a prayer service held.  Over 700 people (mostly teens) were there.  This girl really did touch everyone who knew her.   Thanks again.   I say it all the time but I really do love this bar  :D

I'm so sorry to here of your loss.

Considering her beliefs it seems that God needed her and she was willing to help him too.

May we all be so gracious when called.

Taylor -- thank you for the kind words.  Somehow kids really seem to handle these things with grace.  The services for my neice were amazing.  The kids kept repeating "tears of joy" and really seemed to mean it.  My sister's whole family was sooo composed and upbeat, it was amazing and inspiring.
