So I have a family cruiser and have been thinking of switching to a hand throttle. Would love some input and a little direction if possible.

Ever driven a jet with a hand throttle? It's like cruising a Rascal Scooter in a wine glass store while drunk off your ass and it only turns left....
If you must do it, get a single handle deal and bypass the interlock, it is the only chance you have of not knocking over all the wine glasses.LOL.

I have a hand throttle on my boat. Love it. But that's all I have ever known and have no experience with the foot pedals.
Its all preference, but I wouldnt say its hard to use. Just not the norm in the jet boat world.

They are awesome in open water, its when you get into tight situations when you find them challenging. Keep in mind I learned to drive a jet on Whitewater rivers. Probably why I don't like them.
A lake would probably be a different story... Rivers can be as fast at 8mph, stuff happens too fast for a hand throttle/shift.

The easy answer for me is, in a jet boat you use reverse a lot in slow speed maneuvering combined with the throttle. Hand controls require you to do all this while pulling out a knob to allow the reverse bucket to drop so you can control the boat with reverse. PITA like GT said.

I hadn't thought about that one...good point.
A foot throttle has a return spring on it if your foot leaves the pedal (or the boat), it just idles.
Not quite the same outcome with a hand throttle, the boat will keep going without you in it, I've seen it happen, once is enough.
If you do use a hand set-up, install a kill switch & lanyard, and use it.

I just removed a morse forward reverse with throttle handle built in one... Just removed it an put a regular rex handle on. You can have it... either pick up or pay ship.

i dont see a reason why a hand throttle like i have on my I/O wouldnt work on a jet... plus mine has a rexmar trim switch so if you had a hydraulic diverter you'd have everything in one area as far as controls...

ive never had to touch the throttle while in reverse to maintain control around a dock. i actually barely even used reverse, it was pretty much useless.

I didn't think about maneuvering around in slow conditions I was mostly thinking of laziness really like an IOU just sit back relax and hold the throttle my last jet boat had a foot throttle and this jet boat has foot throttle. Lots of good points thanks I appreciate it guys I'm guessing I will just probably stick with what I got cuz I have no place to mount a dual lever assembly. Lol

The one I just took off fits in the same place as your typical handle area and isnt much bigger. Has a gear inside that switches it to two side cable shaft mounts. Its meant for a jet an came factory for my 73 hull. The throttle wasnt hooked up to it anymore when I got this boat in 2004.

My boat has a lever throttle/forward reverse and I think it's easier than a foot throttle. I think it's easier to control at slow speeds. Just my preference. Just go with whatever your comfortable with.

on my boat you don't have to pull a knob to put it in reverse. The knob on mine just puts the boat in neutral
