f-ing jet boat............Run the boat, But the carb was f-ed up. So I rebuilt another one. Second dum move, first was buy it for the wife. Should have buy another outboard. Know I remember why a sold the last one. Be on to the problem, The rebuilt carb idles at 2000rpm and won't go lower. :banghead: I guess that's what I get for do it my self. Oh wait I get that carb from a friend (ban member) ;D I have to look at it some more. I think I know what it is maybe. oh well. what do you want from a low low, cheap cheap jet boat. A deal isn't always a good thing..... :banghead: I quess I can take out the motor and put two trolling motors in and be just as fast ;) to much work. just had to air it out. tomorrow I will fix it. :screwy:

Sounds like you need a better mechanic ;) ;D
-
Yea, a better mechanic. Or stop beeing a cheap azz and buy a NEW carb, if it was your OB you wouldnt be putting used rebuilt junk on it.
-
Or, you need to find the vacuum leak that is causing the problem. ;)
-
or it could have been I was drinking when I was rebuilting it. I'm thinking that's it. I put the pump spring in backwords. :banghead: :screwy:

Doh! ;D

Plug that big 1/2" nipple on the back your new carb...since you don't have a brake booster on the boat, and it'll probably idle a bit better....if that's not it, take your vac. advance line off the bottom of the carb and plug it in on top of the carb (ported vacuum vs. manifold vacuum)...that 10° or so tends to change the idle significantly.

If your mechanical skills are anything like your spelling and grammar, your fucked.

Oh, MY! lol. What a quote!
You'll be fine, Vent, have at it again when you're calm and all will be OK! ;D
We've all hit those roadblocks at one point, or many points, along the way, and the simplest things are always what seem like big things. Sounds like you already figured out what you did wrong, but as far as a mechanic? You're ahead of me in that department!
Yeah I can diagnose and identify a problem, kinda like "name that malady in three symtpoms or less" as far as where it is. Fixing it, especially fuel, is a challenge to me. I fix Holley carbs by buying a couple 12 packs and invite some people over, lol. Back in the day I LOVED AFB carbs, all screws, springs, and very easy to tune, mostly. Holleys? Did a few, and a couple ran OK, but not like if a real Holley guy had done it! ;D Timing is a no brainer to me. I've never trusted balancers, or timing tabs, from ANY manufacture, and always relied on a dial indicator, my timing wheel, more for cam timing, and always, (Even still now that it's out of retirement) used it to initially set up ignition timing. (On that note, ALWAYS piant your balancer black and use a silver Sharpie to mark true TDC and your 8, 10 and 13 degree marks! If the balancer ring floats, won't help much, but you'll know then. If not, well, you KNOW it's dead on from the degree wheel!).
But, sounds like it's in hand!

It was a joke ;), But seriously, i am in the same shoes. Thought i got a good deal and ended up being countless hours worth of fiberglass work and re doing wiring and gauges. Good luck with your boat, if you find someone that knows holley carbs well or you can read up on them some you can get them running great. I will personally never switch back to an edelbrock, ever. Vacuum leaks are the devil when you are trying to tune something, one leak and you might as well start all over again, but when you get it there will be a grin on your face that will be hard to wipe off ;D
