Scoop plug
« on: June 30, 2015, 06:44:32 AM »
Just a. Question here.

I have a Dooley scoop on my boat. I tend to run it forward but I always tow with it backwards. Always thought possibly stuff could fly into it.

I see a lot of you guys with scoop plugs and header plugs. Is there a reason why? Specifically for the headers.

Or is flipping the scoop around backwards fine. And not worrying about the headers

Remember you have exhaust valves open and dust, moisture and any other crap has a direct path in.  So we cover our headers for that reason.  Scoop covers are pretty self explanatory I would think.  Some people turn them backwards as required in some areas.  The reason for this is a carb back fire cooking the hair off the folks in the back seat.  I never worried much about that, no fuel money, no boat cleaning and no beer a little burnt hair will grow back.

Where'd you pick up the plugs for your headers?

I use plumbing caps from Home depot.  They are 4" caps with a big wing nut on the back easy to use and cheap.  I think it was around ten bucks for the pair. I added a picture not the greatest only one I have.

sounds good, i didnt think of that. figure with it facing backwards, that it would be very difficult for stuff to fly into the collectors.

Those plugs are called dollar plugs or test plugs, depends on who your talking to at home deopt or any other plumbing supply store.
