CARB WILL BE CONDUCTING A FREE SEMINAR ON "HOW TO START THE ENGINE CERTIFICATION PROCESS" -- TUESDAY, APRIL 22
In order to comply with new exhaust emissions regulations :screwy: in the state of California beginning January 1, 2009, all high performance (500 HP and above) inboard marine engines must be certified. :mad: The Southern California Marine Association has arranged a special half-day seminar with the certification staff at the California Air Resources Board offices, 9530 Telstar Ave., El Monte, CA 91731 on Tuesday, April 22 starting at 9:30am to assist in that process. This will be a very valuable seminar/workshop to help engine builders navigate the necessary certification process -- don't miss it. If you plan on attending, please contact the SCMA office at

All major auto manufacturers under rated engines in the past, what's going to keep the smaller builders from doing the same?

When they are done proving my boat is over 500 hp can I get a copy of the dyno sheet!! That would be one way to get your engine dynoed cheap.

California is doing the same thing with sand cars. Any sand car above 500Hp has to now pass emissions. Not only that they are fining all of the builders who have previously sold cars over 500Hp who dont meet the emission standard.

Nothing about this crap will be cheap. I think the laws refer to the riggers, boat builders, and engine packages. Us lowly backyard builders most likely won't be affected, YET...........But it's coming. It won't be long before they figure a way to smog test inboards. They have already put the screws to the outboards, no more 2 strokes after a certain date, some lakes won't allow 2 strokes, even fishing boats with 10HP!!!! Big brother, big government, black helicopters circling overhead, smog sniffing dogs......It's coming boys and girls, and there is very little we can do about it.........BTW, did anyone else see the news about Cal fish and game aquiring Quagga mussel sniffing dogs?.............MP

Well Rod since you seem to be mildly retarded half the time I will let you know that I am not from California or Bullhead City. I am just out here for work and dont plan on staying here. Out here is one of the only places I can work right now and still make 90k++ a year without any type of education.

Well my engine is dated as being made in 1969 I guess that makes me smog exempt ;D I need to start building my engine above 500 HP just to spite them >:D

I requested and recieved the actual docs from the ARB and scma via fax yesteday , looks like this has mostly to do with the New boat industry and New repower engine supply and little if nothing to with us (you and I) and our markets (hot rods , restos etc ) I will scan and PDF copies to those who want same Dont look for retro fit cat converters on your Bassets anytime soon (my interpretation) LOOKS like our OX hasn't been gored just yet Tom

Thats one thing I love about central Washington, nobody cares about emissons.
As long as you aren't making a smoke cloud when you drive that is. ;D
