Title: today I saw

a outboard but it was a jet no prop ? sorry no pics.it was on one of those metal boats that you see in the north that are usually jets but not this one.it didnt look like it worked very well for the size boat it was maybe 20-23' anyone ever seen this before ?

Jet outboards are super common in the Northwest rivers, they actually don't do too bad, but you can hear them for miles when they're two strokes (they turn like 7,000 RPM's).

They've been around for what, 30 years or so? I remember seeing a Yamaha ad for them back in the 80's (I was in the northeast at the time) Have no clue how they perform though.

the bottom of the boat and the outboard deal were flush the boat looked to be pretty new

They were developed during Viet Nam for LSSC (light seal support craft) boats. 

[attachimg=1], but were changed back to inboards because the engines were unprotected.


Here is another LSSC boat with twin Jacuzzis or Berks.  Hulls built by Grafton Boat Works.

I have heard that these boats were twin 427s, but no pictures of that.


Imagine cruising thru the channel in that, with a twin 60 or mounted minigun and MA2HB

Is that one of those, outboard powerhead with a outdrive. I've worked on one of those.... ;D

Very common site in the Pacific Northwest, we have lots of fishing on our many rivers. Most of my neighbors have that set up or small blocks attached to a jet drive. Like these for example: http://www.roguejet.com/  If you do a generic search on craigs "jet" most of the ads are these in my B.C neighborhood, very few lake lice come up and a handful of our style boats results are returned..............................

Yeah, simply a Mercury sport jet, the run pretty damn good too..

Thats sweet..... Since moving to Canada, I've noticed those are popular here as well. Outlaw Eagle is in Alberta and one of their peeps (owners or maybe employee) is on another jet/performance boat forum. Would be fun, but think I'm getting a little old for extreme sports. Rather get into drag racing eventually.

In Missouri these are very common.  They allow you to run in as little as 3-4 inches of water (ideal for small rivers).  My brother in law bought one last year and with a 200hp outboard it does about 42m/h
