Are there any transmission guys in the house? After the Chevy store tried to tell me there was nothing wrong with the trans 3x guess what............THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG! Needs a new one. Dealer wants 3K to do it.(There goes more boat money). Any suggestions or referals? South OC please. I'm fukin pissed :mad: BTW, it's a 2002 Tahoe 2WD

What's broke Flytime?...
I have access to a full on wrecking yard and get the best as far as pricing...May be cheaper than rebuilding...
It would blow me away if it needed to be totally replaced. :screwy:

theres this place out of south dakota called nordstroms auto! when i needed to order domestic stuff such as trans and what not i went through them! saved me a ton of money! you could do that tranny by yourself bob!

In all honesty Bob, 3K is not a bad price at all to R&R a trans in that truck of yours, kwitchyerbitchin and pay up.

About 5 weeks ago between 45 and 55 mph I would feel a little bit of what felt like slipping or it was trying to hunt for the right gear. The dumbshits at Chevy wouldnt pull the pan to see what was really going on so they only plugged it in to check for codes and came up with nothing :screwy: Even the service writer drove it and felt it and his responce was 'Get AAA and keep driving it". Needless to say 2 weeks ago I was driving home and it got stuck in overdrive at a signal, I manually down shifted it, got it to go to 1st gear, went to 2nd, tried to go to third and it was over but the cryin. Top speed was about 40mph taching at about 5k. Limped it down to the dealership and told them "now there is somehing wrong". Been on the phone with GM ever since trying to get some assistance since this will be the 3rd trans in 94k miles and finally got the big NO today. That's my story morning glory.

South Dakota?????? I could probably do the trans myself its more that I dont want to. To much other crap to do ::)

dropping a tranny and a new one with a helper shouldnt be an all day deal...worst case scenerio order one and have a shop put it in! wish i could help...theres a good honest trans guy here in vegas been here for years!

Bob your trans likely went to "limp home mode" (locked in 2nd gear failsafe) Most of you Know I'm deeply invested in the Automobile business and I have huge respect for Dealers (I call on them every week) but if I had to have a trans repaired today I'd give thought to an ATRA dealer or even maybe an AMMCO , they have killer prices and long nationwide guarrantees That 4L60 of yours is a problematic piece indeed and IF you do elect a GM dealer deal go for the SRTA "Black box replacement" not the inhouse rebuild , SRTA should carry a 3 /36 warranty if Im not mistaken If you need a recommendation in that area I'll put you in touch with my inspector Roger who covers the OC for us Tom
just for the record I do alot of "outsource inspection work" for 3 of the Big 3 every month

Went through this last Nov. when I broke my 2002 Silverdo 4WD transmisson trying to back the boat over a curb--big clunk, no reverse, second, or OD. Rebuilt tranny plus labor--$2,200

i am a service writer for ford and we see this happen, first have them print any and all tsb's for your vehicle. tahoes and silverados had trans issues. second get EVERYONE at the dealership envolved, ie: service manager, parts and service director, customer relations manager and request the owner and president. THIS will get fires started, also you need to throw a fit with GM customer service. the dealership has checked for a problem 3 times and unable to find it, there is dealer $$ for this called awa. AFTER WARRANTY ASSISTANCE. this is in place to help offset cost to the customer. My biggest advice to get something done is to get everyone possible envolved and throw a fit. the bigger the fit the more $$ they will allow, ie: 3000.00 bill with awa maybe out of pocket 500-1000.00. hope this helps

When those trannys came out there were a lot of problems and constant updates on 'em. They're very easily fouled by debri, just rag lent will stop one. I installed a new ATRA in a vette and it didnt work, had to pull the pan and valve body clean a little piston in there. One of the updates is putting a spring behind it, this one had it but still hung up. What I'm getting at is get a new tranny, you'll get one thats all updated and have a better tranny than you started out with. Look around and get yer best deal and put it in yourself. When I worked at a tranny shop the typical R&R on say a Monte Carlo with a turbo 350 was 1.2 hrs. Thats R&R, fill and test drive. Dont forget a new converter! You dont want to dump all the crap out of yer old converter into your new tranny.

Thanks for all the replys. Since GM would not offer ANY assistance I pretty much told them to pound sand. I had it towed over to AA(beep beep)MCO this evening. I am going to let them diag. it tomorrow and see what they come up with. Bottom line is I need my fukin car back. I have been driving a damn rental for the last two weeks. Just another expense I really could do without right now. I really dont have time to try to replace it myself right now other wise I would probably would. We will see what happens tomorrow.

AAMCO has the Tahoe right now. Talked to the guy today and said for complete rebuild $1750 + converter. Like I said...bottom line is I need my car back. Should know more again tomorrow after they tear it down.

Hate to admit it but its all about the guarantee and priceing , hope it works for ya Bob !
