Title: TV Casting Call
Post by: Brad @ SCJB on June 23, 2014, 06:36:20 PM
I've been talking to a production studio a bit....asking me all sorts of questions about the boats, shops, the lifestyle, etc. They've seen all the SCJB videos and are very interested in doing some sort of show. They finally sent me the casting call info a few days ago....was kind of on the fence posting this on the site, but decided, what the hell, it would be cool if we had a strong SCJB presence on the show.

Now keep in mind, these guys dont really know squat about boats, so take their descriptions of boats with a grain of salt.

CASTING CALL!!! Jet Boats/Hot Rod Boats/Cigarette Boats

Is it your job to amp up ordinary, everyday boats into lightning fast (jet boats/hot rod boats/cigarette boats)? Can you transform a ’68 Tahiti into an insurmountable powerhouse on the water? Is your shop the go-to place for show stopping, custom hot rod boats that make everyone on the lake jealous? If so we want to hear from you! Crazy Legs Productions is looking for custom boat shops that specialize in (jet boats/hot rod boats/cigarette boats). From ’64 Kindsvater flat bottom drag boats to ’86 Sanger Ski Hydros, we are looking for shops that frequently convert mundane boats into floating masterpieces. If this sounds like you, then please send any recent photos of yourself and your team, a short bio and samples of your work with your contact information included to: casting@crazylegsproductions.com. Please make sure to include “Casting: Boats” in your subject line.

why aren't they looking into the guy's who build them in their garages. You know the guy, he's the one with a beer fridge in the garage and never turns down the extra help.

I fully agree with this. Thats what SCJB is all about....building it yourself....not paying some shop to build it for you.

from what it looks like, they are looking to make a gas monkey garage type show but with boats.....but theres not much of that type of stuff in our industry.....but yes, your boat jake, as well as sam's project, and also the crazy eights came to mind.

why aren't they looking into the guy's who build them in their garages. You know the guy, he's the one with a beer fridge in the garage and never turns down the extra help.

Because that wouldn't have all the fake drama, and unrealistic expectations and goals for "good profitable TV"!!

I think The BurbankChoppers, JesseJames, and some of the Discovery Channels biker build offs, and a few of the monster garage shows were good, but then the Orange County clowns, PaulYaffe, and all the other "pop up" bike builders and TV-ized biker/HotRod shows kinda made a mockery of the real shops, and home garage builders.
I had my home built chopper, and worked at a custom bike shop when the "chopper craze" hit main stream, and it kinda numbed the masses to the one off stuff we made and assembled. And yes I realize I live in a somewhat small town, but the shop was profitable for 7 years before the lowbrow chopper lifestyle became mainstream up here, then we started slowing down, and now I see on C/L all these half built project bikes that someone saw on TV and thought to themselves, "hey I can do that"!!
While the thought of this type of show seems great on paper, I just think it would turn the DragBoat/HotRod boat style into another "scene" that a lot of Joe Q. Public types would just mossey on in and be into them!?!?
The TV world has done that to  HotRods, Choppers, and now seems like they need to find the "next hit" for TV land to make a buck.
That is all just an opinion, and I would actually hope some one could be spotlighted and make it big, with some of the exposure that this may produce, like what happened with WestCoastChoppers, AustinSpeedShoo, Troy Ladd at Hollywood HotRods, etc.
Just something to think about? I'm ALL FOR IT, if it spotlights us all in a favorable light. And don't take this as being bitter, as I'm not, I've been on TV a couple of times welding things, and it is kind of exciting, but I'm just offering my experience to take into consideration...if anyone even cares? Ha ha
