I took my boat out last Saturday for the first trip of the year. We were parked getting the boat ready to launch and about 5 people were there from the Coast Guard walked up and asked if I wanted to have my boat inspected. It's was voluntary and I was nervous but said yes. I was happy that I passed my first ever inspection and got the Coast Guard sticker to put on the boat. They said Game and Fish like to see that sticker. I was happy to pass. And the boat ran like a champ!

We had a cooler but nothing good in it if you know what I mean! They checked for tha basics like life vests,fire extinguisher,spark or flame arrestor,made sure my blower to suck the fumes out of the engine compartment works. You need to have some sort of device to make noise. I had nothing so they gave me a whistle. They make sure your vin matches the registration. One lady was giving me a hard time about not having lights but its from 1978 and my boat doesnt go out after dark. One guy on the coast guard team spoke up and said he had an old jet boat with not lights on it. They asked for a ski flag and anchor. They also asked if I would be interested in a boat safety class and I said yes since Im fairly new to boats. I guess you can do it online. I was nervous of what they would find since I bought the boat used and someone else built it. It feels good to pass their test since it was my first inspection. Im sure they have a checklist online. pretty basic. you need to have a fire extinguisher WITHIN REACH of you at all times. if you mount it up under the dash, you'll get a ticket. also not on that list is a class IV flotation device. usually a square with handles on it that is within reach at ALL TIMES. if you tuck that baby under a seat, you'll get a ticket. i have mine velcro'ed under the dash right in front of the passenger seat, the handle dangling easy to see. whistie or horn is a must, and obviously a life jacket for everyone on board. working blower and flame arrestor is a must. doesnt matter if you have a scoop pointed backwards (found out the hard way... sigh) you'll get a ticket. obvious registration numbers in standard size and legible.
lastly, its not required but look into getting insurance. shit happens and running into a 100k boat because you lost steering or power CAN happen and can easily fvck you. its almost impossible with small boats like ours especially if you have over transom exhaust but its well worth it. not to mention if someone gets injured from a collision or a skiier falls and gets injured, etc. protect yourselves!!!

If you bought your boat on or after May 2005 new or used....your supposed to have two carbon monoxide stickers view-able from driver and the skier(one on trans and other up front). Scroll down to "How I can get" I believe this is for CA only but the river is both CA / AZ

Get insurance for sure! The square flotation device too. If game and fish pull you over will they inspect your motor to see if it complies with marine parts?

We went to Pleasant. I live about 15mins from there. Bartlett is our favorite lake. I think I heard Bartlett was super low. Pleasant get real busy and real rough water. My boat doesn't do go on rough water. We almost went out again yesterday but something came up. I will shoot you a message or email when we are going out again. It would be cool to meet up for sure.
