Just curious if anybody here is into VMX (racing vintage motocross bikes). I will be a race at Glen Helen next weekend and in a couple of months the VMX'ers will be running the day after the World Vet Championships run. On that day everyone who has ever won pro races in the last 30 years will be there on modern equipment. If you ever enjoyed dirt bikes, that is a race to attend. I am racing a 1973 CZ 250 which is the very same bike I was racing in 1975. On Father's Day this year I won my first race since restoring it (however I later found out that I was the only one entered in my class). At my age tho I will take a win anyway I can get it.

Let me know if ya hear of any vintage flat track racing. I have a '80 YZ 250 on a Texas Star chrome molly frame...anyone wanna buy it?
-
There is a place is beaumont that used to do flat track racing . It's been a while since I've been down there so I dont know if it's still goin on , I'm gonna do a little investigation for ya .

Mmmm have you tried your local high school track late at night? Seriously I'll ask around. Have you asked around the AHRMA boards?
-
Yes, I've tried the school track, nice BUT I think the whole SWAT team responded that day! No, I havent tried to sell it, jus hangin onto a peice of my younger days. Would like to go to some vintage meets. Thinkin of jus takin it out to the dry lake bed on the way to Laughlin and play, fukr hauls ass!!

Having grown up a few miles from Ascot Raceway, I became a huge fan of flat-trackers and TT racers. The were running the Mile at Del Mar up until about two years ago........ then it disappeared. I saw the Hayden bros run on the short track there a few years ago..... those guys were so much faster than the rest of the field..... it was Awesome to watch those guys ride. About four years ago, they had a bunch of vintage bikes there. Then to top it all off. they rolled out Kenny Roberts' old Yamaha TZ750.... if you don't know what I'm talking about...... picture a GP two-stroke triple mounted to a ultralight flattracker......... To this date, I have yet to hear an engine run that made my skin crawl lke that. It was borderline obnoxious. A guineapig..... er rider..... took a couple of hotlaps on the Mile. That thing was completely out of control. ...... ok ...... I'm rambling..... you would too if you had seen this thing run.......

Yeah I think some magazine ran an article about that bike recently. Even Kenny was scared of it. Probably for all the wrong reasons. Racing at Del Mar is the shit. Nothing is better than that there.

The whole neighborhood used to go to the TT track at Elsinore every Saturday night....I think brfore ,motocross ever came to the states.

There's an organization just for you vintage flat track fans, and trust me, it's FUN!

I thought I heard of some short track stuff happening down here at Borona Oaks and Perris Raceway, could be mistaken, but seems to stick in my mind. I worked for C&J Racing frame for a year or 2 in High School and Jeff is a good family friend. Toes, I feel you on that TZ. I was at the mile when Springstien did a hot lap or two. Growing up riding 2 strokes, I must say that thing gave me chills, truley an experiance to see. >:D

Barona is the new home for the VMX crowd down south. Killer track and facilities but I don't think the have a flat track there. I could be mistaken as I haven't been there yet. Been to Perris and have never seen a flat track either and its super busy as a MX track. I'm guessing that anywhere west of Stateline is farther than HD wants to drive unless he's got the bug reaal bad (like me). Me and my grommets drove to Hollister for the nationals last year. If I do it again I'm going to pull my boat cuz that Lake Don Pedro is one big ass invinting looking piece of H2O.

Muti -cyl 2 strokes rock!!!
Buddy of mine in the late 80's snuck an RZ 500 in from Canada.
V-4 2 stroke!!! Sounded like a swarm of bumble brees on speed! ;D
I've owned a couple RD 400's FUN.
Lookin' for a H1 or H2 Kawi triple motor for a project I sometimes work on.
Bean oil......nothing smells the same! Memories ::)

I STILL run Blendsal for that very reason. I run it in my nitro weed wacker too....a real weed whacker.

there is a vintage class at the ridgecrest grand prix. i will be running in it you should come out and play that weekend.
-
vintage bikes, or riders....or both?
-
Just a wild guess but I'm thinking any motorsickle race in Ridgecrest would be in the dirt, right? We're not talking Rosamond Road Race kinda thing are we?
-
I need to get back to a project I've had rat holed for a while...
Its a 1971 Kawasaki A7 350cc two stroke twin (little brother to the mach III 500 triple)
I've thought about going more toward the vintage road race than restoration considering that it was very rough when I got it.
I'll think about that more after I finish the Jeep :D
-
the ridgecrest race is a grand prix. half desert half track. it is fun as hell. it is a nine mile lap. or at least it was lastyear. and the vintage bikes and riders all have their own class. I am thinking of getting grandpas 69 botaco or how ever you spell that. running and race that thing in one of the races. but everything is on the other side left hand kick start and stuff. i will probably just crash..haha
-
When is this race. I love GP's. Is it actually in Ridgecrest. I have lived here all my life and never heard of it. I used to loooove the Adelanto GP (except for the water(mud)hole). Pretty cool to see all my hero's running so un-freaking believably fast.

If you are in the neighborhood tomorrow, the racing at Glen Helen should be epic. Dozen of semi's full of custom loamy dirt just trucked in, ma nature been watering it, and they are going to include some never been used before uphills. 80 degrees n sunny is the weather prognostication (guess). Come out and watch the big boys and their toys. Or just drink beer and pray I don't crash my brains out. I think the modern bikes are running on the national track if you want to see some crazy airtime. :o
I'll be running number 17 on the red tank CZ. You girls know what a CZ is right?
