i saw this and got all sad for you! that sucks to hear, but keep on it you'll figure it out! sounds like something with the flywheel or something rather, and starter mesh possibly!

the starter does sound kind of high pitched when it is cranking over. it seems like it is a no spark issue. even with starter fluid i am not geting even a pop

oh sorry tony i know you had to tighten the flywheel so i figured the not starting thing was the fact that it wasnt even cranking over! definately seems like a spark issue...if you got gas and spark she should start....not always the case, but probably something fairly easy my friend

Should be a cakewalk for you! You fixed another boat in less than 10 minutes at Mead with a seriously miswired ignition.

You're running a Pertronix, no?  >:D

Don't get Brad all fired up on the Mallory thing again! I run all Mallory on mine too, lol. (Pickles an HEI, which is going AWAY!!!)

Probably just the Unilite module went out, possibly the procoil, if that's what you're using. BE careful on the Procoil, only certain models are compatible with the Unilite.

I got a couple modules here, and reluctors, but you can probably find sumpin local quicker.

ya i am just not sure what happend. it worked fine then one of those bolts came loose and jammed in the flywheel. i got that out of there replaced the starter and now nothing works. going to chase down the voltage tomorrow. and it is on my smart chager for the nite. so i will have full batteries to screw with tomorrow. plus i have one of the local race engine builders coming by to help out. just in case it is not somthing stupid that i am over looking. i am not sure what you are talking about the the unilite and stuff.

i have a mallory distributor and a mallory coil. then that stupid resister thing. that is it. it has always worked before not sure what has changed.

Is it a Unilite? or a dual-point? Now I'm confused.....Why the resistor?

Ballast not required on a Unilite with a Hyfire 6AL, sorry, running that too, my bad.

Wheres the damn schematic, hold on. Open your cap Tony, if theres points in there, it's a dual point, if Unilite, gonna look like a fan in there on the shaft with a self contained red one piece unit.

you are going to either give us a model number on the dizzy or tell us what it looks like under the cap! both are easy and cheap fixes as long as that is what fixes the problem...i know the modules like to fail, and often, and points are also good at failing or when they get wet

the caps are common for breaking the little spring loaded deal that touches the rotor i would investigate that as well

i pull the cap it looks like a standard cap. has the center point that goes to the coil and 8  points that the rotor hits as it swings around in circles. i would look at the model number but it is dark and windy outside and if i look at my boat one more time today i am going to shoot it full of holes.

Another possibility! Thanks Harry! I carry a spare rotor and module in Moo for the very reasons Harry and Nordie said! Actually a whole dizzy.

Still an easy fix either way Tony. As Nordie said. Keep yer panty hose on, not that big a deal! The description I'm talking about remove the rotor, it'll be apparent.

when i was looking at it the points inthe cap looked a little corroded s i cleaned them up with some sand paper. as well as the rotor. i noticed that the center point to the coil wire was black. it is not cleaning up well. due to the spring pressure. it makes it hard to clean it. i also noticed that the cap itself right at the center point looked like it got pretty hot down there or there was an arc or something.

just as i suspected! if you cant find it locally you are going to be going by marks shop on the way to the river if im not mistaken...well kinda...i would stop in and get 2 of them caps, and an extra rotor...

cap is 209M

unless you have the marine one...which is blue...you can actually get it, but probably half to order it!

I have seen these caps do this more times then i can count! but i would like to think that was your problem!

I had the center point on mine break in two pieces last year, replaced it and no problems since.  Hopefully that does the trick for you.  Good luck cuz Thursday's right around the corner.
