Vance got the boat together Monday, Tuesday and packed on Weds. The kids are at the river with it now.

What kind of fire? Fuel leak?

Idk. Didn't even really look yet. How many possibilities could there be though? Electrical somehow? Fuel is my first thought though. I've never heard of a boat spontaniously combusting whilst in the water.

Kids are now 28 and 23. They we're raised in that boat, it's 25 years old. I don't worry about them doing something stupid. I'm more concerned about the idiots on the Parker strip. First day out and Vance had to fix a couple of small water leaks. Motor was blubering, ended up changing out the needle and seat on the secondaries. Seams ok now.

Fuel leak spark'd by the alt.
Did it happen when you first hit the key/ starter?
I told the kids to open the motor cover to check for fumes everytime before they start the boat.
Fire or explosens is the one thing that really scares me and I check for fumes everytime.
Glad you are ok

My boyfriend says no fuel leak. But he changed the oil yesterday, put 8 quarts new in and pulled the dippstick this morning and there's nothing on it. Strange... would that cause fire?
I didn't even go out just for this reason. I went back to my air-conditioning and five minutes later here come my boys telling me the boat caught on fire... but I'm thankful they're alright too.

Depending on what oil pan you have, 8 quarts might not show.

Thank u for that tid bit of info on the oil pan. He didn't take the size into consideration either. As for the fire a few possibilities arose so far. One being the valve cover on one side wasn't tightened and oil got on headers. And the second reason being that the oil filter was spewing oil. No catastrophic damage to be found yet

I've had oil spew out the breathers on the valve covers and catch fire on the headers.

This weekend up here in Eugene Oregon I took my 75 Tahiti with the 502 Chev out to Fall Creek and flogged the hell out of it and reasserted that The Lyme Riki is the fasted float on the water!
