Title: What F...... is this?
Post by: keithwidney on May 18, 2014, 12:12:08 PM
So my floors were rotted out so I started cutting them out last night.i found 2 of these  popped under the floor.then I was tearing the bulk head out and found 5 more popped and one still inflated with one made into a rats nest.

people back in the day were paranoid that their boats would sink.  so they filled the bow with all kinds of fun stuff like baloons, floaties, and rediculous amounts of foam. all of which ended up holding in water and caused more damage than they were worth.

What I've heard is that the USCG required a set amount of flotation additive and the heavy duty beach balls were approved.  I removed 4 from under the deck of the Hondo.

Hey it could be worse. My Sanger had six rotten plastic bags 4' long full of packing peanuts. That was fun to clean out

Those are stock floatation from the builder.  They actually are my favorite type of floatation.  If they are still holding air, I would put them back in in a heart beat.  They weigh nothing, can't hold water, won't rot, and if your worst boating day happens and you sink it, they will help keep the nose afloat so maybe someone can attach a line a drag it back up or at least pull it to the shore.  If you don't want them, I would gladly take them off your hands.

No problem, I am planning on throwing a couple small inner tubes up in the sponson's of my boat, but those would've worked great.
