I'm looking for a small block for my buggy. But I don't know what to put in it. I like fords but I have a chevy. What I need is something lite and powerful. I don't want to run a computer. I need around 250 to 300hp now and than I will built the motor to 450 to 550hp later. I have a 350 now with 550+ but it's in my truck and don't want to rob it of I don't have to.
-
Do you do your own engine work or do you pay to have it done?
-
Considering you dont have a block to begin with , I'm gonna go with chevy . You can probably dig a hole in your yard and find chevy parts.

no motor, starting scratch. motor work don't matter. I have a ford guy and I can built chevys
-
Go Chevy....Fords suck ass....really they do.

Does the R mean stuck in reverse!!!! Just because a know trucks, don't get mad.

I like Ford and Chevy trucks, but unfortunately Ford hasn't been able to figure out how to build a transmission to match the reliability of the rest of the truck. Anyone who disagree's that Ford transmission's (stock) don't suk has got to know they're wrong. Read the Trader in the Ford section, you'll read over and over new trans new trans new trans etc...
My 2001 Ford F-150, which I really like driving, is the way of the future. Plastic intake manifold, clutch needed at 55,000 miles, 3rd gear problems, etc...

Allisons don't get stuck in reverse! Ohh yea...They have a 6 speed...Ohh yea they have 365HP...Ohh yea they have 660 Torque....Ohh yea mine got fuk'n stole'n a week ago so I'm gettin' my new '07 Classic Mon....

you need to go get a super duty. Both trucks run strong. no tran problems. My excursion is the best. Both are diesels. In my f350 that I use for work, I always have over a ton in it. (daily) THe excursion tow like a dream. It's a way better truck than need chevy truck. And it halls 8 people to the river. Just do the maintain like you should.
-
Look at the HP and Torque numbers...not ta mention the looks...My old '04 Duramax would tow my 12K pound weekend warrior down I-8 at 85 all day long...Can beat a chevy just look at Nascar...And every other old hot rod ford they all have Chevy's....Least ya' got an Outboard!
-
excursion got 22mpg on the way to LA. both get only 16 mpg towing (both are lifted too) What das a chevy suburban get. Oh do they even put diesels in them?

your just like a jet boater ;D I can tow my 26 feet gearbox which is the heaviest toybox made. which I think it's 15k+ loaded. 80+ all the way to the river. stock not chipped If you want to go for speed, my old ford truck had all the motor/tran up grades and brake up grades you can get. I pulled the hill at 95+ with my gearbox in tow.
-
back to the top. I need to pick one sbf or sbc?????

Do those Ford deisels use Ford transmission's? (Sorry about screwing up the thread, I just gotta know!)
-
yes, i think so. there are two different one. my best friend works for ford, so all my shit is maintained by him. he said that both trucks have the better tran in them. i checked with him before i bought them.

Wish I had a Diesel Minivan...;D Four doors and I can put a Rhino in the back while I tow my boat...;D Again...look at the stock HP and torque numbers...Just like a jet boater against a Merc.....You loose...;D

I have owned SB Ford 351W and 351 C I liked the Clevland much better. I also had a 350 chevy and a 400 SB the 350 reminded me of my 351W the 400 was built to the hilt and dyno'ed at 750HP so of course it was my favorite ;D I never had transmission problems with any of them and all but the 400 were stock. I do know that 350 Chevy parts are easy to find used, but both are widely available new.
-
I'm saling my twin outboard and going to a jet. because of warlock likes chevys.

350's are a dime a dozen and except for the two versions (two piece rear main seal vs. one piece rear main seal) hick-up they are interchangeable as hell.

It might be easier to set that buggy up with a chebby small block, but obviously I'd prefer the Ford.
If you looked closely at the details of both of the engines' internals side-by-side, you'd probably make the same choice. I think it would be easier to get the desired HP from the factory Ford parts. Aluminum heads will make it a toss-up power-wise, although I'd still prefer the Ford's shortblock.
Generally, Ford's offering is just better, design-wise; why do you think that Ford designed both of these smallblocks in question and then unloaded the eco motor to GM's chebby division?

I read, a long time ago, that Chevrolet designed the 265 small block in 1917 and decided then that the design was too expensive to build and then stopped production before it even started, so to speak.

Well I picked up the new '07 Classic duramax in Phoenix (since the '04 got stolen)....On the way outta town (Tucson) I pulled over ta' get some gas and I look over and next ta' me is this old man by himself in a brand new Ford Crew cab dually towing a flatbed trailer with a Pro offroad truck kinda like a smaller trophy truck with Toyota racing stickers on it. My friend (Offshore) pointed out that it had an Ivan stewart sticker on the side...'Bout that time the old man walked out of the gas station I told him he wasn't Ivan and he said "sure am"..That has to be the coolest dude you could ever meet..We bullshitted for a bit the truck turned out to be his show truck..We snaped of few pics and went on to pick-up the truck...That just goes to show that even the baddest offroader of all time has bad taste in trucks...;D
-
Let's see the pictures.
-
I'll post some pics when I get back from the lake...After we bullshitted he asked about a pizza place next door and I told him I'd never been there...As he went to the pizza joint I called a few bro's and they called BS so I ran over to the Circle K and bought a camera and went to the pizza place and he asked if I was there ta' have some pizza...I said no, asked him if I could have a few pics with him next ta' his truck and he was totally freakin' cool about it...Real class guy...I then asked if he new Warlock from SCJB and he said no! He must not get out much....

I met Boyd Coddington in the early 80's, I thought he was a real prick back then but I guess he could have just been busy. ??? :D

he tends to come off as a dick on his show at times, but im sure they ask him to for dramatic value since it is a reality show. ::)
