Post by: ka0tyk on March 11, 2014, 09:48:54 PM
i have that free boat and i just want to get rid of it at this point. where can i take it to throw it away and realistically how much am i gonna have to pay? would it be easier if i chopped said boat into pieces or should i just do it whole?

Out in Santa Clarita, the dump off of Ruether takes boats whole, no papers, no questions asked. Weigh in before you dump, weigh in after. Just pay for the weight of the hull. From the times iv done it, about $25-$35.

Only thing, it's a bit far from you.

i burned a couple pieces of scrap wood that i pulled out of my boat and i wasnt very successful.  with the current cost of gas i have a feeling that i would need more than the $35 in gas just to keep the thing burning.  then there was the carcass of fiberglass that was left over...

Downey Southgate. There's a dump same thing by the pound. If that one is closer to you I can give you directions. Not sure what's it called.

I dumped a 21' Anthony for $40 bucks at the rialto dumpsite north of the 210 on Alder.  Dumping your boat shouldn't be as much

You have to use a diamond dusted saw blade or that fiberglass dulls the blade in about 30 seconds. Ask me how I know lol

Gotta use a good quality blade, Diablo or something similar. I used to cut up boats before I learned about the dump. i can cut an entire boat up with one blade.

I only used two blades to cut mine up. Blades and sawsall from harbor freight. Still took it to the dump, just in the back of the truck instead.

Brea dump. $20. Buddy used one up and dumped it there. This was about 5 years ago though.

I've cut up an 18' jet once. Luckily I had access to a dumpster. I would take it to the dump whole next time. It was a mess.  Take pics if you do. Good luck.

I just cut one up with a sawsall and a gas chop saw. 1 hour and a $44 dump bill

I guess I had a tank of an old tahitti because drove my truck on to it after I flipped it upside down and it didn't even cracked it .

so i towed it all the way out to the rialto dump, but apparently you need a "junk slip" from the dmv.  so i went home with it... again.  ugh.

I cut mine up and the dump didn't have a problem even when I told them it used to be a boat.

Yup if its intact they wanna see the junk slip. I had that problem here in San Fernando valley.... Sledge hammer makes it like stress relief too but really ineffective!

If you would have driven out to Santa Clarita, it would have already been crushed!
Like I said before, I searched and searched for a dump that doesn't require paperwork.
Junked three hulls this week! Simple 5 minutes turn around!
