Title: Who has had LASIK surgery?
Post by: crewchief22 on April 24, 2008, 05:58:51 AM
I'm going in this afternoon to get LASIK surgery.  So far everyone I've talked to has had very good results.

Wish me luck.  ;D

i had it done about 2-3 years ago....best thing i have ever done.

are you doing the one where they go through the protective area? or are they cutting the flap back? i dont remember the medical mumbo jumbo terminology for it.

i did the one where they went through the protective area

Good luck, although you probably wont need it. They're pretty good at it now-a-days. I've been thinking about it myself, have an appointment to find out if I'm even a candidate on Monday.

Although nothing like Lasik, I've gotten metal in my eyes more times than I can count and if there's anything that makes me nervous as all hell, it's someone screwin' with me eyes at a real close range.   :D  I'm sure that a lot of us on here have gotten metal in their eyes.

Good luck!

How bad were her eyes? Chief what's your eye sight like? I'm worried I might now be a candidate for the procedure.

just go see the doc and find out. there are several things that are taken into consideration when validating you to be a candidate for the procedure....not just 'how bad' your eyes are.

Understood. I'm curious as to astigmatism, etc... That kinda stuff. I guess I should just do some web research before my doctors visit on monday.

I've worn glasses since I was 21.  My close vision is ok, but everything at any distance (over 5') is fuzzy.

I don't really have a problem with wearing glasses, but my wife has been putting money into a pre-tax medical account that needed to be used and my Daughter doesn't need braces yet.

Appt at 4:00, should be leaving by 6:00

when all is said and done, it could be upwards of $5,000 if done right. there are cheaper clinics out there that advertise it for cheap.....but would you go cheap on your eyes?!

i went through a program my insurance company had through truvision...cost me about $1,500....including all pre and post op visits and guarenteed the work done for a number of years.

You will be fine! I had mine done about 10 years ago. We do alot of pre and post op's at the practice I work at and have seen very few complications. For those of you thinking about having it done and are wondering about the price....dont price shop a surgeon! The man upstairs only gave you one set of eyes and LASIK or PRK(which is what Brad had done) are both life changing and permanent procedures. Go to a good experianced Dr.! The average price for LASIK will run you 4k to 5K and should include all pre and post op visits. Some offices even offer a lifetime commitment guarantee. Hope you are doing well Keith and follow ALL your post op instructions. Some of them are a pain but worth it in the long run.

Your mother..oops

Hope everything went well with the surgery today. My sister had it done 10 years ago and its been great for her. I'm getting to the point to where I'm squinting to read anything. Hell I'm half Japanese so now when I squint I look like a full blooded harbour bomber.

I'm back  ;D

Well my vision at a distance has not been this good in a very long time  ;D

I'm am a little bothered by my loss of close up vision.  I would have been back here on Friday but I had to go buy some cheep reading glasses to be able to read the computer screen  >:(

Hey Flytime, is it normal for my close up vision to be this bad or is it just temporary?

Welcome back Keith. The one problem with LASIK at our age(the 40 and over crowd) is that the better your distance vision the worse the up close vision :(. For years after my LASIK my distance vision was 20/15 in both eyes. Over the last couple years it has gotten a little worse in the distance but my reading is still great. I did make myself a pair of distance glasses to wear at night sometimes when my eyes are a little tired but I cant see very well upclose with them. You did the right thing by getting the cheap cheaters to read for now because over the next few weeks to about 3 months the vision will change. Hopefully you will become a little less farsighted which means the reading will become better. Hang in there. You will also notice a change once you get to stop taking the steroid drop and the antibiotic drop. Remember, youre only 2 days post op ;).

Bob

P.S. Move youre CRT screen futher away and you will see it better. ;D
