Things to do while waiting for Summer to get here.
« on: March 09, 2013, 07:56:51 PM »
I know there is a "Let's see your Rides" thread around here somewhere, but damned if I could find it.   Anyhow tomorrow early I'll be headed down south to Cahuilla Raceway to race the CZ.  I ran the first District 37 Grand Prix in Taft back in February and place second after not having raced in nearly 2 years.  Tomorrow is an MX race and if all goes well I will be running again in 29 Palms in a couple weeks at another Grand Prix.
I have owned this same CZ since 1976, it was my first real dirt bike.  Last year I bought a 380cc motor from Marty Tripes after I blew the crank seals in the original 250.  If you have ever seen me, you understand why a bigger motor would be helpful LOL.  Anyway, I figured things could use a little fresh air in here tonight, so enjoy looking at a piece of motocross history, they don't make 'em like this anymore.  For you youngin's CZ was the first of the lightweight two strokes to break the historical dominance of big 4 strokes back in the 60's.  Roger DeCoster won his first couple World Championships on CZ's, then Suzuki lured him away with big money.  4 inches of travel in the back and maybe 6ish in the front!  Now I'm running 5.5 and 7.5 but I have plans for some Bultaco forks and a date with a welder that will have me at about 8.5 inches at both ends.  Dry clutch and a 4 speed tranny keeps things interesting.
Some big ass beef ribs just came off the BBQ so I'm out.  Have a good evening Gents.

Wanna feel old?  I have had the sons of Willy Surratt and Bruce Penhall in my class.  Ryan Surratt is racing in Texas this week then off to Florida.  He's pretty good.

Results just posted.  First moto I was last to the first corner but finished in second place.  Second moto I was midpack off the line and finished first.  That was good for 1st overall in my class of old farts.  Two 20 minute motos on Sunday and my thighs are still burning a bit today.     Next stop is 29 Palms where the race will be more like 45 minutes long.  :screwy:

Good Job John.

I might have to come be a spectator at the next event.  Still going to be a while before I'm riding again.
