VISTA BLOWS

Half of the work stuff I do wont even run on it.....XP is the bomb...wait a couple months and go with Win 7.... :-\

I hate my Vista machine with a passion...some of the features are cool, but it is a nagging POS when you're trying to actually get something accomplished...I am so tired of "Are You Sure?" I could scream  :banghead:

Tom, you can order a good laptop or desktop from anywhere (I have a Dell Laptop going on 2 years old, highly modified, that I love. Running Vista).

Right now you can order from almost anywhere and it will come with Vista, with a free upgrade to windows 7 when available. I can also tell you where you can purchase a brand new computer with an XP downgrade if thats your cup of tea.

Vista has a built in compatiblity feature that I have yet to find a business program that wont run in that mode. Let me know if I can help.

If you have to go with Vista go with the FULL version (Vista Ultimate 64 bit) or just get it with XP or just wait for Windows 7. I wouldn't go with a lesser version of Vista with plans of upgrading, that sounds like more trouble than its worth.

I sell laptops, parts and service for a living. Nearly all of the big manufacturers are offering a free Windows 7 upgrade with a Vista computer purchase. The only version of Vista that does not qualify for the upgrade is Vista Home Basic. Your average user will not gain much between 32 and 64 bit operating systems. The main differences between the two are more limited memory of 3GB with 32 and possible software compatibility issues with 64, which support 4-8GB depending on the unit. Windows XP is still available on many laptops that we sell and includes Vista Business and 7 upgrade, so you are essentially getting 3 operating systems.  However only one OS may bee installed at time.

Tom, if you are looking for a laptop I can hook you up with one or at least point you in the right direction. I also have a couple screaming side deals on new XP Desktops. The desktops are custom built ones that I am selling on the side. Desktops are $350 complete with Samsung 19" LCD monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
New Notebooks start at $479. XP Notebooks start at $579.

What's wrong with your laptop? Maybe we can fix it. What brand is it? We are a premier service provider for Toshiba, Lenovo, IBM, Fujitsu, and HP/ Compaq Business units. Let me know if I can help.

I run Vista on my LT, Jeremy knows more about what my LT can and cannot do more than me, but never had an issue with running anything short of that DVD dealio.

Run XP on the kids LT's and the desktop though. All seems to work together on the wireless just fine.

My expertise, however, went out the window (no pun intended) when DOS/Windows 3.11 were replaced with 5. Knew my chit back then!

VISTA BLOWS

X2. Avoid at ALL costs. What a POS! Buy something with XP pro, or buy the laptop and then wipe it clean and install XP over the top.

It took me a while to get used to it and for the patches to come out to fix the compatibility issues, but I truly like Vista better. I will probably upgrade to 7 though because I'm building a faster machine and will want the extra ram capability (since I bought the Vista 32bit version).

The problem with the Vista is two fold, I do some programming of EMS systems with Johnson Metasys software and 9 out of 10 times the Vista will lock out and will not proceed, the JAVA applications will have the same issues if trying to do remote access or remote desktops....

As far as I know there have been no patches for this issue...I run XP Pro without issue...To give you an idea how jacked some of this stuff is, most of the systems I log into require a serial port, when is the last time you saw a serial ported laptop?, we have serial to USB adapters now, but even that had to have a driver patch created... :banghead:

Win 7 is supposed to be the bomb, my software engineer buddy says it works really well and can be "adjusted" to work with anything...(He has a trial edition).
